Song for the chapter: Pluto Projector-- Rex Orange County

Bianca ended up finding a dress after all, but not until late in the evening. It was a black dress that had lace sleeves and flowed down into the midsection then faded into a long puffy skirt. It wasn't the perfect dress moment she had expected from reading about it in books, but it felt like the closest she could get to her idea of perfect. She was just grateful to not come home empty-handed.

When Bianca entered the house she heard the Malfoys eating dinner and decided to go join them. They don't have family dinners very often, since everyone usually just grabs something quick. Today it looks like Narcissa made lasagna.

"-I just don't think that Hogwarts is suited to give you the Dark Arts education you need son," Lucius is saying. This makes Bianca think back to the Death Eater attack. Were the Malfoys planning on reuniting with their old friends? She sits down at the table hoping Lucius will disclose more information. "Bianca you would do well to transfer to another wizarding school as well. Hogwarts does not teach enough offensive dark magic, and you will need to know those things in life."

"Why would I need to know that?" she asks bluntly. "I'm studying to be a potions teacher I don't need to know offensive dark magic for that."

"Well Bianca, things are changing. I take it you've heard of the Dark Mark being cast on the night of the World Cup?" Narcissa says in her usually clipped tone to the point she almost sounds pained. "We're not sure what this means as far as Death Eaters or even the Dark Lord returns. This could even mean your mother making a return and we just want the two of you to be ready for whatever this means for the family."

Hearing this makes the girl's stomach twist. She's never had to deal with her mother first hand, but she knows Bellatrix would want her to become a Death Eater. Bianca wonders what her mother would do to her when she finds out that's not happening. Bianca has always known she was different from the family, she comes from a long line of dark witches and wizards, with the exception being Sirius Black. Those two seemed to be the only ones who thought there was something wrong with this prejudice against muggles and muggle-borns.

"I like it at Hogwarts," the girl answers simply. "I'm close to finishing and then I'll be on my way to working there, there's no need for me to uproot everything and leave."

"Well what if the Death Eaters rise again, what will you do?" Lucius prompts in a tone that makes her think her answer will change everything.

"Are you asking if I'll join them? Because there is no way in hell I'd ever want to become one of them," she laughs but there's nothing humorous in her tone. The girl is terrified of what comes next but doesn't let on. Bianca knew this conversation would come eventually, she just didn't think it'd be so soon.

"You know your mother would disapprove of this right?" Narcissa states matter of factly. She laces her fingers together and places them below her chin. "You're just like Sirius, the black cat of the family. Bringing shame to our family name once again. It's bad enough you were sorted into Hufflepuff, but now of course you want to go run off with blood traitors and mudbloods alike."

Bianca feels like Narcissa's words should hurt, but it almost makes her laugh. Bringing shame to the family because she doesn't support a serial killer who only looks out for himself? The same man who tried to kill an infant to gain immortality? If this makes her a black sheep that's completely fine. She shakes her head and responds, "Well sorry to disappoint."

Lucius and Narcissa look at each other and seem to be having a silent conversation. Bianca glances over at Draco but he is staring down at his plate and refuses to meet her eye. This is typical of him, he'd never stand up to his parents. Even when they were little and got in trouble for mundane things he'd do whatever his parents said. The girl didn't expect him to defend her or even give a genuine opinion of how he felt, but it still made her sad.
