Song for the chapter: betty— Taylor Swift
Cassie and Bianca's last detention fell on the thirty-first of March. For some reason, Bianca was almost sad as she entered Moody's office. Although the girls weren't best friends, in the last few weeks they had begun talking during their detentions. It was just small conversation and the occasional jokes while they were grading papers, but it was a huge improvement. Bianca knew that if she didn't tell Cassie today, she'd never get the chance to. Angela's words were fresh in her mind as they graded papers for Professor Trelawney.
Bianca wanted to see if things would change between them if Cassie found out they were sisters. It would also be nice to finally get it off her chest. This secret was weighing her down. Bianca was still terrified of telling Cassie though.
"Listen to this prophecy one of them wrote," Cassie says. "When the blind man sees once more, the foreign one shall bring forth a country's doom and an era of sorrow. What the hell does that even mean?"
Bianca was still taken aback when Cassie spoke to her so casually so she paused a second before laughing. "Oh c'mon, you don't remember bullshitting your way through Divination?"
"No, we don't take Divination in France. The minister says it's rubbish," Cassie says sounding slightly snotty. As Bianca said, their friendship was a work of progress. But this was a good a time as any.
"So you're going back to France at the end of the semester right?" Bianca says hesitantly. Her heart was pounding but she tried to ignore it.
"Where else would I go?"
"I don't know, it's just sad that we'll never see each other again," Bianca says quietly because her voice was shaking. She took a deep breath and just said it. "Because we're twins."
Bianca looked up to watch Cassie's jaw go slack. Her face visibly paled and she looked at Bianca through her dark lashes. Cassie seemed to be trying to work it out in her mind as she stared Bianca down. Finally, she shook her head with a nervous smile, "Good one Lestrange, but there's no way."
"Cassie, I'm dead serious. You said it yourself you were adopted when you were little. Haven't you ever wondered who your birth family was?" Bianca asks feeling her heat sink as Cassie denies it.
"I-I would've known," Cassie breathes staring down at the desk now.
"That's what I thought too, but I think they messed with our memories. I can hardly remember anything from my childhood until I started therapy," Bianca says gently. She didn't want to scare Cassie away, especially now that they had just started being civil.
"You're lying," Cassie spats.
"What would I gain from lying about this?" Bianca asks in the same gentle tone. "I know it's a lot to process but-"
"Just stop!" Cassie yells standing up. Her cheeks were turning red and her eyes had a wild look in them. At that moment, she looked eerily similar to Bellatrix. She held the same anger and demented look that their mom wore all too well.
Bianca didn't say anything in response, she was slightly scared of what Cassie might do. Bianca intertwines her hands in her lap and squeezes them. She just stares out the window, hoping Moody will come back soon. Bianca tries not to think about what just happened because then she'd cry, and she wasn't sure if she'd ever stop. Cassie sat back down after a moment and she continued grading papers in silence. She was writing more aggressively before and everything about her screamed fury.
Moody did come to the rescue, and as soon as he stepped in the room Cassie stormed out. The door slammed against the wall as she passed. Moody stares at the doorway she had just left through with a perplexed look. "What was that all about?" he asks finally turning to Bianca.
