I did end up having to go back to New York to check in with Yelena and let her know that I was going to be staying there. Of course it went about as well as I thought it would.

She thought I was going insane.

"Are you insane?" She yelled as I walked in. "You go on a one day mission and come back seven days later telling me you're staying in the middle of nowhere with some mind controlling guy? I didn't even know if you were okay!" I let her continue to yell. "He so got into your head didn't he?" I scoffed.

"No he didn't." She let out a sarcastic laugh and shook her head.

"He tricked you, and you fell for it. I mean you're still falling for it because you're going back." I rolled my eyes.

"Druig isn't who you think he is, he doesn't want any trouble with anyone he just wants to live peacefully in his village," now she was rolling her eyes at me, "and frankly I understand that."

"Druig? You're going to live with a guy named druig?" She shook her head. "You're giving up. There are people and fights out there that need you and you're going to leave them to go live some fantasy life in the rainforest." I sighed a bit and looked at her.

"What's the point of fighting when I have nothing to protect? I've never had something of my own to care about. I love my powers and what I'm able to do with them but for once in my life I felt like I belonged somewhere. I feel at home there. I'm sorry Yelena but I've made up my mind." She seemed to back down a bit but didn't say anything. "I hope you find the place that feels like home to you someday." I walked out of her place.

I had gone back to my apartment and grabbed some of my things before making my trip back to the village, which is where I now was.

It was a weird feeling leaving New York. The thought of not living in a busy city was one I almost couldn't imagine. It never really did feel like I belonged there though. I tried to convince myself I did but it just felt lonely there. So many people around me and yet it felt like no one was there.

"What's on your mind my beautiful Astrid?" I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my stomach as Druig placed his head on my shoulder. I looked out over the village as the sun was rising.

"Just getting used to this view." I answered placing my hands on his arms and leaning back into him.

"Yeah me too." I could basically hear the cheeky smile on his face. I felt his lips press against my cheek and couldn't help but smile. This is where I felt like i belonged, in his arms. I turned around to face him and put my arms around his neck.

"You know I've been thinking." He had started placing light kisses around my face and neck.

"Hm?" He hummed in response. I lightly cupped his cheek to push his face away from me a bit.

"You're not gonna like the idea."

"I'm listening." He had a more stern look on his face now.

"What if you lifted your hold off of everyone?" I suggested and he looked down, shaking his head. "Everyone thats here likes it here, no one wants to leave."

"It's safer."

"Is it? We're both here and more than capable of protecting these people." I tried to meet his gaze but he wouldn't let me. "Let these people have their freedom and their privacy. If something happens you can always control them again but for now, let them live their lives."

"They are living their lives, with my protection." He argued.

"We are right here, we're not going anywhere. This is our home and their home." He stared out at the village and stayed quiet for a bit. He seemed lost in thought as he scanned over the people that were around. Soon enough I saw his eyes start to glow. I looked out and saw some of the villagers seem to look around a bit before going back to what they were doing. I smiled and druig met my eyes finally.

"You drive a hard bargain you know." He smirked and I chuckled.

"Thank you Druig." I put my hand on the back of his head and ran my fingers through his hair. He brought his forehead to mine.

"Anything for you." I pressed my lips to his, he kept the kiss short and pulled away slightly. "I need you to promise me something though." He seemed to be concerned which made me concerned.

"What is it?"

"If something happens here, something to do with me or my past, you need to promise me you'll leave." I scrunched my face and he shook his head, knowing I was going to say no. "It's not a choice Astrid, I could never live with myself if something happens to you because of me."

"I cant promise that and you know it."

"Then you have to leave now." He backed up a bit and I could see the sadness in his eyes. "Knowing you're safe somewhere else is better than putting you in danger here because of my own selfishness." I scoffed.

"I'm not leaving you not now and not if something happens." I reached out for his hand but he stepped back again. I looked up at him and knew he saw the hurt on my face. His eyes fell to the floor.

"I've given you the options." He simply stated. I stared at him in disbelief. We both didn't say anything. I heard him sigh a bit and start to turn around.

"I promise." I spoke barely above a whisper and he stopped in his tracks. "If that's what it takes to stay with you then, I promise." I cant lose him before I've really gotten the chance to be with him.

"Come on, let's get breakfast." He went inside. I stood still for a bit confused as to what from his past he was talking about. Whatever it is he's obviously scared of it, I mean he seems pretty powerful so what does he have to be scared of. I shrugged it off and went inside to the kitchen. Hopefully I'll never have to figure it out.
