If you think normal news travels fast, then you should see how fast celebrity news travels. Within a week, everyone knew about Austin and I. In fact, I was sitting with Trish and Ally in the food court and the cover of the magazine Trish was reading had Austin's face plastered on it with the subtitle: "Learn about Austin's new girl inside!"
"How do they know anything about me?" I questioned, taking the magazine from Trish. "They can't know THAT much, can they?"
"Press work in mysterious ways," Trish shrugged.
"You told them, didn't you?" asked Ally.
"What? No way! Astley and I just became friends, I'm not gonna sell her out that soon."
I laughed. "Wow, thanks Trish."
I looked through the pages. They had two pages about "Austin's new boo". It was basic things like my name, my age, favorite food, favorite color. However, about 90% of it was false. They probably made that stuff up so they could seem like they got the latest scoop on me before anyone else.
I threw the magazine on the table and took a sip of my milkshake while Trish read it again.
"Speaking of Austin," Ally said. "You two going on another date any time soon?"
I rolled my eyes. "I swear, Ally, you're more interested in my personal life than in your own."
"Come on. You two really like each other. It's been nearly a week since your first date, don't you think it's about time you two go on a second date."
I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about another date with Austin. I mean, we were officially a couple and all. But, at the same time, I knew he was a busy guy. He had his whole career and everything. I never actually got at him about another date since our first one. I figured we'd go on one whenever he got time off.
Ally and Trish began talking about something else while I played on my phone and sipped my milkshake. This was our idea of a day off. Better than being stuck in that hot store all day, I'll tell you that much.
Suddenly, my phone chimed. At the top, I seen it was from "Austin Babe <3" (the name he gave himself. I have to get him back for that).
It read: "I spy with my little eye, a beautiful girl drinking a milkshake."
I smiled and looked up to see Austin standing at one of the food places with what I could only assume was Dez. Austin was looking at me and when we made eye contact, he smiled. His smile put butterflies in my stomach. I smiled back.
"Astley," said Trish. "Who are you smiling at?"
I looked back to them. "What? No one."
Ally looked over her shoulder at Austin, who was now paying for his food.
"Oh, I see. Lovergirl just spotted her Loverboy," she said and elbowed me. Trish did the same. I batted both of them away. "We should invite them over!"
"No," I said. "Come on, maybe they're trying to have a guy's day. We don't wanna ruin it."
Just as I finished speaking, I felt an arm wrap around my neck and Austin's lips on my temple before the two boys pulled up two chairs next to us.
So much for that.
"Hello there ladies," Dez said. "What are you three doing on this beautiful day?"
"Eating," Ally said and held up her nachos.
"Drinking," I added, gesturing to my milkshake.
"Talking about Austin."
I hit Trish in the arm, causing her to jump and rub the spot I hit.
"Talking about me, huh?" Austin asked as he put an arm around me. "What were you saying?"
"Actually," I said, trying to rid my face of the blush I knew was there. "We were talking about this magazine, which just happens to have you on the cover of it."
Austin reached across me to pick up the magazine, which was still open to the article about me. He skimmed the page before placing it back down and saying, "That's all false."
"Oh yeah?" Trish challenged. Austin passed the magazine to Dez, who dramatically cleared his throat before reading.
"Name?"
"Astley Mikaela Richardson."
"Age?"
"16 and a quarter."
"Favorite food?"
"Ice cream."
"Favorite color?"
"Purple."
Trish turned to look at me, waiting for me to confirm the information Austin had just given her.
"He's right," I said.
"Wow, Austin, you really know a lot about Astley," Dez mused as he put the magazine back on the table.
"What can I say?" Austin said as he stretched an arm around my shoulder. "I'm a good listener."
I giggled as Austin kissed my cheek. I felt so lucky to have a boyfriend like him. I hadn't dated much in the past, but I was almost positive none of my exes could answer those questions like Austin could. I guess it only proved that maybe Austin and I were meant to be together, like in those gross yet oddly intriguing romance movies.
As Austin, Dez, and Trish began to talk about something else, I noticed Ally looked a bit upset. Her eyes were down, staring at the table. She played with the straw of her milkshake, stirring the barley touched liquid around her cup.
I wanted to ask her what was wrong, but I didn't want to embarrass her or anything. For all I knew, it was something personal that she didn't want anyone to know. She sure didn't seem like she wanted any attention drawn to her. So, I decided to make up an excuse to talk to her alone.
"I have to go to bathroom," I announced. Wow, Astley. That's the best you could come up with? "Ally, would you mind coming with me?"
Ally gave me a confused look, one I was sure the rest of the group was giving me as well, but I didn't give anyone any time to talk. I grabbed Ally's arm and pulled her out of her seat and towards the bathroom. Once we were inside and the door was closed, I turned to look at Ally.
"Are you okay?" I asked. She put on a fake smile, trying to play off whatever happened.
"I'm fine! Why do you ask?"
"You just looked a bit down back there," I said. "I didn't wanna mention it in front of the others in case it was personal or anything. But, you know you can tell me, right?"
Ally sighed and turned to look at herself in the bathroom mirror. I continued to look at her, waiting for whatever she was about to say.
"I guess I'm just a bit jealous," Ally shrugged.
"Jealous? Of me and Austin?" I asked.
"Yeah."
I could understand why she'd be jealous of Austin and I, but Ally was a beautiful girl. She had a great personality, amazing talent. I couldn't see how it'd be hard for her to find a boyfriend.
"Ally, I'm sorry," I said, although I was unsure why I was sorry. "But, you are amazing and I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to get you a boyfriend, or even just a date."
"It's not that, Astley," she said. "I didn't wanna tell you this cause I knew it'd make you feel guilty."
I was officially confused. Ally chuckled, although I knew it wasn't an honest chuckle.
"Austin and I used to date."
