5. It's Okay To Love Again

It had been a few weeks since Kierra had landed on the boat and joined the trappers. She had then ended up becoming a permanent guest in the fort and everyone had gotten used to her. Well, Eret was trying to get used to her.

One night, he couldn't sleep so he decided to take the next watch from one of the crewmen. As he patrolled, he spotted Kierra looking out into the horizon and the ocean. What was she doing out here so late? Curious, he walked carefully towards her and stood beside her.

"Isn't it strange how some people don't believe in magic, fate, or destiny?" She said without looking at him. Eret yelped and stumbled back, causing her to laugh. When she turned to face him, she gave him a tiny smile which he unconsciously returned.

They were both quiet for a bit till Eret decided to break the silence.

"So what is your life story?" He asked.

"You really wanna know?" Kierra responded. Eret nodded and she smiled a bit. "Okay then. Just don't feel too sorry for me okay?"

"I promise."

She told him how she came from a broken family. Her parents had her older brother when they were eighteen and her mother died in childbirth when she had her three years later. Her father seemed to dislike her very much and her older brother Percy always protected her from whatever he thought was dangerous and was a threat to her innocence. Sadly that included their father who became a drunk and a very violent parent. They ran away from home when she had accidentally set the house on fire, that was the day that her father had almost beat her senseless and the day she discovered her ability to shift into a dragon.

After the accident, they found a village who had taken them in and they were shocked about her powers but they didn't turn them away thankfully. And when she was sixteen she fell in love with someone who had ended up bringing her nothing but a bad heartbreak.

"I was going to say I am sorry but you don't want to hear it from me. So what did that boy do to make you feel broken?" Eret asked when she finished her story.

"He betrayed me." She replied, looking down. Eret saw a small tear fall down her cheek and he gently wiped it away. She looked at him startled but she didn't say anything. "And it's his fault that I can't trust love anymore."

"Well heartbreaks happen all of the time. And it's okay to love again." Eret said looking down at the small tear that stayed on his finger.

"Not after what he did to me. I can't trust my heart anymore!" Sierra yelled, angrily slamming her fist down. Tears were flowing down her face slowly but she took no notice of them.

"You can love again Kierra. You just have to find someone you can truely trust." Eret said turning her head to face him.

Then he did the most surprising thing: he gently turned the rest of her to face him, gently pulled her close and kissed her softly on the lips. When he pulled away, Kierra was looking at him in astonishment.Kierra didn't know how to react to his kiss, it had left her lips tingling sensation on her lips and her body felt as it was filled with electricity when he kissed her. Then she just blushed and quickly walked away from him. But moments later she came back and pulled him close to her and gently kissed him back. They stood there for a bit enjoying the kiss before Kierra pulled away, both their faces flushed and feeling very warm.

"I better get back to sleep soon. Uh...good night Eret." Kierra said still blushing and then she walked back to her cabin.

"Uh...good night?" Eret said watching her leave.

"Someone got luuuuuckyyyy!" Eret's head jerked up to see some of the crew on a railing above them all grinning from ear to ear. Eret felt his face flush with embarrassment as some of the crew began singing some sort of love song.

"Alright, next person to make fun at me about this will have to shovel crap for the next five months!" He yelled.

"How about till you hit the next base!" He heard one crew member yell and the others laughed. "We all know it's gonna happen sooner or later!"

"Shut up before I make it a year!"
