Chapter 1:
"Her troubled thoughts and restless nights were usually her escape."
I sigh as I click the publish button for my new photo blog. I turned off my phone and lay in my bed. I am beyond exhausted. All I wanna do right now is to shut my world and fall into a perfect slumber. But unfortunately I can't.
The heavy pounding of music coming from downstairs is keeping me awake. My brother, Alexander, is throwing another house party for the 3rd time this month. I don't know why, but that's how he entertains and pleases his friends.
I went out of bed, walked into my door, opened it and closed it again with so much force. I flinched at the sound it made, but I bet they wouldn't even give a damn about it though.
No one in the the family will know about his parties anyway at this moment, not my parents nor my grandparents, except for the neighbors. I kinda pity them because this happens regularly. When the neighbors get super pissed, that's when my brother should hide.
Everytime my grandparents find out about his parties, it could only mean one thing, our neighbors went to their house to complain about the noises. My grandparents' house is just two streets away from ours anyway.
That's why Alexander doesn't always go to their house. He's too ashamed for the shits he had caused. It was just me. Just me who goes there regularly to check my grandparents. They're not that old though, I just care for them enough.
"Avery! Avery! Avery!" I was awakened by a sudden knock on my door. It's my brother. I peeked at the digital clock beside my bed. 3:23 am. For the love of god, what does he want this time?
"ANO BA?!" I shouted at his shit face once I opened my door. He was smiling, drunk but smiling when he saw me.
"What is it this time?" I said to him and rolled my eyes.
"Uh... I need you to... uh.. help me with something." He said.
"Help with what?"
"Promise me first that you'll help me, please Ava." he answered with a pleading gesture. I just want to get this over done with so I can sleep.
"Fine fine. What is it?" I said, defeated.
His eyes suddenly glowed like christmas like I'm his savior. What the f*ck?? Can you believe this assh*le?
There are more fun ways in spending my 3:30 am. But I found myself screaming, "Are you for real?" to my brother once he handled me a broom and a dustpan.
"Uh yes? You promised that you'd help me right?"
"Aaargghh! I swear to god that this will be the last time, Kuya! This happens like what? Every other day?" I said to him as I clean the house.
"Actually, every Saturday, Ava." He said.
"So what? It still happens regularly. After this, I'm out. I'm moving out to Aunt's for college anyways." I say, exasperated.
"I know. I know. But you'll miss me anyways." He said while smirking.
"Shitface. Why won't you just start cleaning up those red cups?"
"Fine." He grumbled and started picking up those cups they used.
