Modern College AU

Caitlyn stared down at her papers as she wrote in her notebook. The homework she was doing seemed unending, but it seemed to keep her occupied. College work had a thing about doing that. Of course, it would be easier if the professor for this particular class actually gave her a decent textbook to use.

Now she never had a problem with staying on task, but she much rather spend her time doing nothing instead of this complicated, confusing assignment.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated.

Her eyes glanced downward to see that it was Vi who was calling her. Taking her AirPods out of her blue case, she put them in her ear and answered the call.

"Hey Cupcake," Vi greeted her.

"Hello." Caitlyn said as she stared at the assignment she was working on intently.

"How are you?" Vi asked.

"Good," the blue haired woman replied. She was silent for a few moments before muttering, "Why do you need to know this...?"

"What?" Violet asked on the other end of the line.

Caitlyn went to typing on her computer. "My professor for this class gave me an assignment that's due some night and I'm struggling because the materials he linked give me no help on how to answer this."

"Damn. That sucks." Vi responded.

"It's already bad enough I'm failing this class. I sent this professor five bloody assignments and I only got credit for one so far." Caitlyn said as she stared at the question that was bugging her until she just typed anything at this point.

"Damn, you failing a class? This guy sounds like some work. When is that thing due anyway?" The pinkette asked. "Also sorry if you hear me moving around, I haven't eaten all day and I'm in the kitchen making a turkey sandwich."

"You're fine. And it isn't due until like..." the woman looked down at the notes in her folder. "Sunday night, but I want to get it done as early as I can so I don't struggle at the last minute."

Vi was silent for a few moments before speaking. "Understandable. You honestly put a lot more work in than anyone else in that class from what you tell me."

"And it's not just the professor that's a piece of work," Caitlyn mumbled while typing and saving the latest changes she made to the Word Document. "It's the material too. Or lack of it."

Vi groaned. "I hate that shit. Give me a hard subject and hard questions, but no damn help."

"Then this fool decides to tell me I'm somehow doing the work wrong and fail me despite the fact I show up to class on time on the days I have him." Caitlyn huffed as she typed and saved the last bit of changes to the document, and she decided that would be good enough.

"I would drop that class." Vi stated as she moved around some more. "What should I put on my sandwich?"

"I might consider it. I've never failed a class this bad before. I mean yeah I do bad in some areas, but I always bounce back somehow. Also dijon mustard." Caitlyn replied.

Vi moved around again and the sound of a door opening invaded Caitlyn's ears. "I'll be damned. I do have that. Thanks Cupcake." She said as she at last, had her sandwich assembled. "But yeah, I'd say drop it if it's giving you this much trouble."

"You're right. I've been stressed for weeks. I'm surprised I can actually sleep sometimes." Caitlyn commented as she fiddled with a pencil.

"Cupcake deserves no stress." Vi said with a smile in her voice.

The statement made Caitlyn giggle. Now while the Kiramman woman wasn't exactly one for phone calls, Vi was the exception. "I sure don't. So uh...if you don't mind me asking, what made you call?"

"Oh y'know, just wanted to hear your voice and stuff. Also when I saw you in the last class we had together you looked like you were exhausted." The pinkette answered.

The words made Caitlyn smile. She looked at the time. It was only seven-thirty. And it was only Friday. She could always work on this assignment Saturday.

With that decided, she double-checked of her changes were saved, turned her computer off and got out of her swivel-chair. "You know now that you're making a sandwich, you got me hungry."

"Well go ahead and get some food so we can talk." Vi chuckled between a mouthful of food as the two talked.
