Detective X Criminal

Caitlyn sat in her office at the department. The arrest had been made. Now she had to move on to the next one as usual. But for some reason she couldn't.

Ever since she put the cuffs on Vi, her stomach flip flopped. She could barely sleep, she didn't want to eat, and above all she felt a gnawing sensation inside her each time she did a check of the inmates due to Marcus and his nagging. The bastard complained in her ear like a vulture about everything.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. "It's open."

"Hey Caitlyn." Jayce. What was he doing here?

"Don't you have someone else to bother?" She snapped, never having looked up from her papers.

Jayce walked up to her. "Caitlyn come on, just stop working for one minute."

She whipped her head up to stare at him. "Do you know where I work?" Part of her wanted to slap him for making such a ridiculous statement, but she held back. "Besides I'm on another case already, can't exactly do that."

"I could talk to Marcus y'know. Tell him to cool it." Jayce suggested, a small smile on his face.

"He's my boss. You can't tell him anything. On top of that, you don't even work here. You have an entirely different job." Caitlyn pointed out, going back to looking over her documents.

"True, but I am above him because I've been given the task of making sure all the corruption is wiped out." Jayce remarked.

Caitlyn let out a dry laugh. "If you're given the duty of supervising an entire department, we're gonna need God to help all of us."

Jayce frowned and put a hand on her shoulder. "I'm serious though. You need anything just say the word. I'm your friend for a reason." He said, sincerity in his tone.

The blue haired woman sighed softly. "Do you...ever feel like shit when you make a decision?" She blurted out suddenly.

There was silence for a few seconds. "I mean...yeah. It's apart of being a human. Good choices or bad, all you can do is what you think is right." He replied.

"But that's my problem. Ever since I came back to work, I can barely concentrate. I feel sick just even standing at the door of my own office. My stomach flips over.." Caitlyn tightly clenched her stomach and felt her eyes water; tightness in her chest as she tried to breathe.

"Cait, come on. Take the day off. Please. Whatever's eating at you can't be solved by you shoving your head in your papers." The man was practically begging.

Something inside Caitlyn lit up. "I will. Thanks Jayce. There's something I must do first," she stood up from her seat and put her belongings in a bag. "If anyone asks you where I went, tell them I had an errand to run."

"You got it," Jayce said with a thumbs up and that damn cheerful grin on his face.

With a nod, Caitlyn left her office and walked down the hall.

***Some time later...***

Vi sat in her cell, her eyes having never left the bars. Her emotions sitting and stewing inside her when Caitlyn shoved her in here.

Foosteps could be heard. Heels clicking against the floor.

The pinkette didn't move however.

"Get up." Caitlyn?

Vi rose to her feet. "What kind of bullshit is this?"

"It's not bullshit. It's real." Caitlyn whispered as she pulled the key to Vi's cell out of her pocket. "You really thought I'd give in to Marcus' bitching about looking good in front of the department?"

Vi chuckled. "I knew you didn't have it in you Detective Cupcake," she mused. "Chase me, lock me up and now you let me go."

"The quicker you leave, the quicker this can be done." Caitlyn hissed quietly.

Vi's eyes widened. She was serious.

Taking a step, she saw the door slide open and exited the concrete cell. "But...why?"

Caitlyn looked her dead in the eyes. "Because I love you after all."

Vi stood there. She was stunned into silence.

"Well?" Caitlyn took a couple steps ahead of her.

Quickly, Vi followed after her.

***Half a year later...***

Caitlyn adjusted her sunglasses as she stared out on the balcony.

"Thought I'd find you out here." Vi said.

The woman stood there, feeling the love of her life hug her from behind.

"You just know every little thing about me don't you?" Caitlyn hummed.

It had been exactly half a year since Caitlyn silently broke Vi out of jail. The pair had parted ways for a couple months until they found each other again on a foreign island of all places. It was almost as if fate made sure they were never apart.

Vi had gotten her life together, still keeping her sister safe but not like how she used to.

As for Caitlyn, as soon as Vi was let out, she effectively vanished from the department. She decided it was time to settle down and live quietly, be with the woman she loved.

She looked back on the games of cat and mouse and decided that in the end, if she were asked to do it all again to be with Vi, then she would play their little game.
