Chapter 10

The Balrog

Third Person Pov

The Fellowship didn't venture far before the hobbits grew tired and had to stop for the night. Tauriel still hadn't woken up yet. Legolas had been very worried about her after the incident with the Kraken. He laid her down on the ground, and took a blanket from my back, and put it over her to keep her warm. We set a fire, and started to cook. Just then, Tauriel slowly began to open her eyes. Legolas saw her move, and rushed to her side, helping her sit. Tauriel gave him a weak smile while Legolas gave her a reassuring smile.

By this point, everyone else saw that Tauriel had woken, and rushed to her side. The hobbits got so excited that they leapt onto her, and everyone else laughed at their immatureness. Everything was going fine until she let out a gasp, holding her right wrist.

She must've broken her wrist from the Kraken, Legolas thought. They all let go of her, and looked at her, worried. She let out tears of pain, and couldn't stop crying. Legolas hugged her, trying to calm her down, while she just clung to him, not being able to help herself crying. He kept on kissing her ear, and whispered sweet things into her ear, while Gandalf whispered a spell to fix her wrist, and another to get her to sleep. She went limp in Legolas's arms and muttered something about not wanting him to leave. He desperately looked at Gandalf, wanting him to do something about that, but he knows that there's nothing he can do.

"We have to continue. It's a 4 day journey through these mines. Let's hope we go through unnoticed." Gandalf said.

Everyone nodded, and continued. No matter what Legolas thought, he knew that they had to continue. He's heard of the stories of the Mines. Orcs and goblins have taken it over, and the dwarves that used to live here have been slaughtered by them.

Legolas's Pov

We've been walking through the mines for a day now, and we just came upon this room where Balin is buried. Tauriel had calmed down since the incident yesterday, and everything was just going fine until now. Pippin dropped a skeleton into a well, and now the orcs and goblins and who knows what else is coming for us.

Boromir went to close the door, and an arrow whizzed by his head, and onto the door. "They have a cave troll." He said.

Great. Just great. Now we have to kill a cave troll.

We quickly got axes, swords, and stuff to use to block the door. Aragorn, Tauriel, and I stand in front of the door, facing our arrows that way. Gimli stands on the tomb behind us, holding his ax. Gandalf and the hobbits are beside the tomb, getting their weapons, getting ready to fight. Boromir stands next to us, holding his sword and shield.

We all got ready, and some of the orcs broke parts of the door. Aragorn, Tauriel and I all shot at the door, killing an orc each time. Arrow after arrow we shot, the orcs didn't seem to stop coming. Soon, they broke down the door, and started charging at us. We all got ready to start fighting them. Aragorn switched to his sword, Tauriel switched to her daggers, Gandalf used his staff, Boromir used his sword, the hobbits used whatever they could find. I stayed with my bows and arrows since I'm most comfortable with them.

The orcs ran towards us, thirsty for battle. Most of us stood our ground, except the hobbits, who moved around, scared. Aragorn, Boromir, Tauriel, Gandalf and I all tried to keep the orcs away from the hobbits, so they wouldn't get hurt. I went straight for the cave troll, who was causing the most damage.

My arrows flew at the troll, and hit it's target, but it doesn't seem to be penetrating the skin. All it did was make the troll more angry. Just then, it sees Frodo and Merry and Pippin hiding behind a pillar. Merry and Pippin went 1 direction, while Frodo went another. The troll saw his next target. Frodo. He roared at him, and went straight to him. I try to fight my way over, but there are too many. I saw Aragorn try to get to Frodo, but it was too late. The troll first hit him, knocking him to a wall, rendering him unconscious, and then went to Frodo, and speared him. I tried harder to get over to kill the troll. I shot a few arrows into its mouth. It roared, and fell, dead.
