To put it bluntly, Griddy's was a shitshow. It was a casual hangout for hitchhikers, druggies, truckers, creepy old men and unsuspecting families grabbing some food to fill up on on their road trip, only to get jumped in the parking lot.

Griddy's was a doughnut shop, or a diner if you want to get technical. It had several health and safety violations, many cases of gang fights in the surrounding vicinity and was just sticky in general. It was a dumpster wrapped in orange, yellow and pink luminous lights, vintage barstools and posters to distract you from the rat crawling under your table.

It also happened to be where Angelina Campbell was working the nightshift, as she did almost everyday. She didn't have much of a choice in whether she was severely sleep deprived most days though. Eden House Orphanage was a strict facility, and no matter how many times the girl asked, she was not permitted to leave unless it was under supervision. Minor safety and whatnot.

But of course she did the only thing she could do. She got a job anyway, sneaking out of her bedroom window every night and traveling the dark streets of the city. Yes, it was a very flawed plan, but it seemed to be working for the past four months, and she hadn't gotten mugged yet, so she saw it as a win.

Of course, her win wasn't very triumphant. She was barely working minimum wage until all hours of the night in Griddy's for Christ sake. The prime time for the hitchhikers, the druggies, the truckers and specifically the creepy old men, but even so, she was thankful.

Agnes Rofa was probably a bit looney for deciding to hire a fourteen year-old girl. Angelina could say confidently that not a lot of businesses were willing to hire a teenager. She wasn't sure whether it was the girl's strange amount of maturity for a supposed hormonal, dramatic teen, or if it was just the fact that the diner was heavily understaffed, but she was thankful either way.

She was the only upside to working in the sketchy shop. Agnes was a kind woman, a little aloof but it made her more interesting. Angelina loved interesting people. Sadly, the only interesting people that entered Griddy's were past convicts or should-be convicts. She just needed to work for another few years, and then she'd be able to ditch that shithole of a town.

But for now, she was shoved behind the counter of the dimly lit, overly sweet smelling diner, reading a comic book as she waited for the last customer to finally leave. He had been taking his sweet time scarfing down his custard doughnut, flicking through a newspaper, making him eat even slower.
