♥︎Chapter Twenty-Seven:
Attempted Robbery

Diego slowly stirred from his pain induced slumber, the crunching glass beneath him being the only thing he could feel or hear, besides the ringing in his ears. The distracting ache in his bones caused his blank mind to jolt back into action, the pain indicating to the man that he was in danger.

Well, he had been ten minutes ago, before he had gotten knocked out, and before Hazel had left the house.

The man lifted his heavy head, rubbing the back of it with a hand and feeling a sting as he did so. He was almost too caught up about it to notice the two preteen-like adults watching his slow movements in both interest and entertainment. Almost.

It took his memory a minute to catch up to him, leaving him there, lying on the floor for a moment, until the flash of fighting and rage flooded back to him, powering his body to push itself from the floor, ignoring the pain.

Angie looked up from her nails, a thorough look of pleasant surprise on her face.

"Oh, good. You're awake."

Five too looked down at his brother, watching his befuddled face contort into something much more serious. "Ready for a drink now?" he questioned.

Diego's head whipped around to look across the room in confusion. "Where is he?"

It didn't take a genius to guess what he was referring to. Five stared back at him, unaffected by his stress and agitation. "I let him go," he stated coolly, even though he knew Diego's reaction to those words would be anything but.

"You what?"

Diego took a few steps closer, disbelief crossing his features. He looked like he might try to strangle his brother, but he graciously waited for him to speak first.

"Now that the apocalypse is over, it's time for the fighting to stop," the boy explained, somehow being the most rational Hargreeves in the room.

Actually, that wasn't that surprising. Diego was hardheaded, everyone knew that.

Even as he ignored Five's words of wisdom and trudged across the carpet to pick up his bloody knife, ready to completely disregard anything he could have possibly learned, he was listening to his own thoughtless mind, and his only. He didn't listen to reason.

"Hey," Five called out, trying to stop another repeat of what had happened before, if Diego could even find Hazel, wherever he was now. "He didn't kill Patch. His partner Cha-Cha did."

"So what?" Diego snapped back, too stubborn to listen to reason. Even Angie, who felt as though she listened to her heart too much over her head thought he was going too far. Yes, he had lost someone he loved, but that didn't give him the right to go around and kill everyone and anyone. That wasn't justice. She knew Patch would have thought so too. "They were both there that night."
