♥︎Chapter Twenty-Two:
Saving Five Hargreeves

Angie's palms were drenched in blood. His blood.

As soon as she had said it, Allison and Diego had jumped to help their brother. Diego grabbed his legs while Allison hooked her arms under his, trying their hardest not to injure him anymore than he already was. Meanwhile, Angelina tried not to fall down the ladder with her shaky hands.

It was her job to get him down the ladder too.

Shit.

How was she supposed to do that? What if she only hurt him even more? What if because of her, he died. She couldn't do that. She couldn't do that to him. Not when they were so close to the one thing he had been fighting for the last however many years of his life.

But that wasn't his life.

Those were years he wasted away trying to get back here so his family could live.

Five Hargreeves had only lived for thirteen years of his life. Barely even, with the exploitation of his childhood because of how he was born. She never thought she was lucky, but if she was lucky because of one thing, it would be that she got to live. Even if most of her life was a faded blur to her, she had lived before that.

And she could live now.

She could finally live the life she failed to since her parents died.

She wanted Five to be able to do the same.

Out of everyone, he deserved to live the most, and now he might not even have the chance to do so.

It was her fault.

She knew something was wrong but of course she had to try to put on a leader mask and focus on the mission ahead. Goddammit. Why was everything so messed up? She had told herself before that nothing could go wrong!

Had she jinxed it? Had she done this? Was she some sort of bad luck charm, dragging misfortune with her everywhere she went? It made sense.

It was her fault Klaus had been kidnapped along with her, and after she got away unscathed, he had gotten sent to the battlefields of the Vietnam War and got his heart crushed.

It had been her fault that Five was now unconscious because she was too chicken to actually talk about something with him for once. Not something to do with the mission, the apocalypse, superpowers. Something real.

All because of that stupid fight.

It definitely felt stupid now.

She felt so selfish for being mad at him.

But she still had a chance to help him, and she would try to do everything in her power to make sure it happened. So she stood at the bottom of the ladder as Allison lowered him down by his arms.
