the problem.

I look around and so many people share my interests. I'm not particularly talented, in a world full of talented people. I feel I am boring, normal, not needed.

the Zen understanding. 

Because a Zen Buddhist does not believe in the fundamental nature of individuals, a Zen Buddhist does not ascribe significance to how interesting someone is. I am you and you are me, fundamentally, so what do I have to be proud about, if I am "interesting"? What do you have to be ashamed about if you are "boring"?

Our existence is a talent show but only among the foolish. With wisdom comes the knowledge that what really matters is helping others to understand this very thing. Does this seem circular? Well, there is a reason that the wheel is a common image in Buddhism. The wheel symbolizes our endlessly complete reality.

the Zen application.

Knowing these things, a Zen Buddhist is content with themselves. As they have the capacity to love, they are grateful. Every moment they can better the world around them.
