Chapter 16: Rescue

I was attached on what seemed to be an operating table. There was a bright light on top of my head. I tried to move my arms, which was impossible.

"There you go my dear. It's gonna be fine, you can do it." someone said.

I saw a man bend over me. This face... I knew it. It was my father's face!

I couldn't say anything to him. He had a syringe in his hand. The feeling of fear took over me. I tried to struggle but it was in vain. The needle sunk into my skin and the liquid inside was realised in my veins. Everything started to hurt, as if my entire body was on fire. I heard the tearing screams of a child. Were they mine?

The first thing I sensed was a swaying sensation. I slowly opened my eyes. My detached H/C hair was obstructing my vision. A cloth in my mouth prevented me from speaking. My hands were still attached in my back, and my feet were tied together. I shook my head to remove the hair strands blocking my view. I finally saw what was happening around me. Eren and I were both tightly attached to Bertholdt's back. We were standing on the Armoured Titan's left shoulder.

Another titan, a lot smaller, was clamped onto Reiner's titan. I suspected it was Ymir. A blond girl was hanging onto her, Historia. They managed to capture her when I was out? Why wasn't she resisting? She had her gear on, she could easily escape.

The Armoured Titan was running at full speed, obviously fleeing. And the reason was that right behind us, an army of a hundred soldiers was chasing us. Some members of the Military Police and of the Garrison were accompanying my Survey Corps comrades. I focused my sight on the closest horse riders. I managed to see Commander Erwin, Mikasa, Armin, Jean and... Levi?! What was he doing here? He was supposed to be in Ehrmich, resting!

My heart sank. Did he come to rescue me? Guilt struck me. It was the second time he found me, completely helpless. I promised myself to do my best, to keep on fighting for my lost friends, for Greg and for my lover. I frowned and tried to free myself. But the ropes around my body were too strong and well secured.

My movements woke Eren up. He quickly rose his head when he realised the situation we were in. He couldn't speak either due to the cloth in his mouth but the look in his eyes said it all. He also tried to break free.

"Don't try to escape, it's useless" Bertholdt told us.

Hannes, the captain of the Garrison, tried to cut the Armoured Titan's leg but his blade broke against the shell. A soldier hooked his grapple next to my head and tried to reach us. But Titan Ymir grabbed his cables and threw him away. I grunted, furious. Ymir was a traitor, she refused to help and now she was killing people.

Mikasa appeared out of nowhere and took out one of Ymir's eyes. She then rushed towards us, determined. But Bertholdt quickly reacted. He flew to Reiner's neck.

"Reiner! Protect us!" he yelled, scared.

Big hands surrounded us and sheltered us from outside attacks. We had no idea what was going on out there. Eren was pushing Bertholdt against the side of Reiner's hand with his legs.

"Quit it Eren! Don't struggle!" Bertholdt said.

"Good luck with that, Bertholdt." a voice laughed from the outside. "It's impossible to get him to calm down. I know better than anyone!"

I immediately recognised Jean's voice. He was a good kid, I really appreciated training with him.

"Bertholdt! Give Eren and Y/N back!" Mikasa yelled.

"Hey you're kidding, right? Bertholdt? Reiner? This whole time... you kept quiet and deceived us?" a boy asked.

"You guys! Tell us it's all a lie!" a girl pleaded.
