(D8) Iris

Iris is an Ex-British railways class 14 0-6-0 diesel locomotive manufactured at Swindon works under the modernization plan. D9501 emerged from Swindon works on the 5th of January 1964, as the second member of the 56 member class ordered in 1963. Following her completion, D9501 would be set to work at marshaling yards all around the western region, performing trip workings and short distance goods services to neighboring yards, particularly finding herself handling shunting jobs from a military munitions plant, picking up her by the book attitude when it comes to her work. In 1966, the North Western Railway approached British Railways regarding the purchase of D9501, and other diesel shunters, and in the second half of 1966, Iris, as she was affectionately named by the workers based at the munitions factory, fell under the ownership of the NWR and would be set to work at the recently upgraded Ramsden Dock branch, becoming the head shunter of the dockyard. Upon arrival to the NWR, Iris wore a BR green livery with yellow warning panels on each end, and would have her number painted on her sides, she is currently allocated to Ramsden MPD.
