Riddle
He doesn't quite get it... He'll still respect your identity and pronouns, but he doesn't understand. If you explain the concept of a gender binary he calls the concept "absolutely preposterous". Labels don't matter, people are just people.
So... he kind of gets it.

Trey
He knows. He understands. One of his cousins is nonbinary, they explained the concept to him when he was a kid. He totally gets it. He wants you to feel comfortable and validated, so he tries to compliment you in the most gender neutral way possible.
"Slay it, my thane."

Cater
As a guy who also does not adhere to the gender binary, he gets the struggle. He goes shopping with you, does your makeup however you want him to, and makes it his personal job to confuse everyone who looks at you. Are you a boy? Are you a girl? Not even Cater Diamond knows.
"Okay, I'm going with a totes dramatic wing, so hold still bestie."

Ace
He teases you about it. He acts like every middle school boy ever. He makes the usual jokes that you hear from boys in sixth grade. He started saying that he identified as an attack helicopter.
Then you legitimately asked him how he chose to identify. He was actually speechless. He didn't know the different identities. Ace had never actually put any thought into it.
"I didn't ask you to give me an existential crisis!"

Deuce
He didn't know what the word meant. Nonbinary? Okay? What did that mean? He put off studying (which he didn't want to do in the first place) to figure out what that was. He turned to the internet, books, everything he could find.
Alright, you didn't identify with the gender binary... what the hell is a gender binary?
The next morning he was more informed, but he also looked exhausted.
"I think I get it now."

Scarabia
Kalim
Baby otter doesn't know what that means. You tell him that you're his partner, not his boyfriend or girlfriend. The poor boy began to panic, thinking you were breaking up with him. You reassured him that that wasn't the case. You told him you weren't a boy or a girl.
He seemed to get it then. He nodded, slowly, taking in the information before giving you a big hug.
"I love you anyway."

Jamil
He knows what it means. He saw the signs.
"Okay."
He's there for you and he will do everything in his power to validate you, but he also doesn't exactly... care. You're just you. You always will be to him.

Octavinelle
Floyd
He didn't understand. Now, to be fair, Floyd Leech doesn't understand many things, the gender binary and spectrum certainly being a couple of those things. But now, if he wanted to make you feel comfortable, he sort of had to learn what they were.
"Shrimpy's trying to kill me."

Jade
Of course, he knows what it is! You underestimate his intellect, surely. You ought to see the Coral Seas. There are many merpeople there with no gender at all. You'd be right at home... if only you could breathe underwater.
Oh well, maybe you'll figure it out someday.
He helps you gather a wonderful assortment of gender-neutral formalwear. After all, the Monstro Lounge has a dress code and he, unfortunately, cannot make an exception for you.
"For now, you can simply borrow some of my things. Add a few belts and the like and you'll be perfect."

Azul
Male, female, agender giant squid, he doesn't care. All that matters to him is your comfort and company. And possibly your money. He knows what nonbinarism is, he understands the concept, and he'll do all that he can to make you feel comfortable.
In the near future, he ends up trying to form a flirty contract with you, wagering your gender as the price. You pushed him playfully and called him a "ridiculous octopus".

Diasomnia
Sebek

You don't identify as a male or a female? Alright. He just calls you Human anyway. His little baby human who can't do magic. Is that a nonbinary thing, or is it just you? He's teasing the hell out of you and you cannot stop him. I'm sorry.

Silver
He lets out a sigh. He thought he was the only one.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with being called "he", but... I don't quite vibe with being a guy, you know?"

Lilia
He knew already. You didn't have to keep it secret from him. To be honest, Lilia doesn't see the point of the gender binary. He's SO glad to find someone who feels the same!
Now he helps you strike a balance between femininity and masculinity. Assuming you need help. If you don't then he laughs and gives unnecessary critiques.
"I'd personally try a belt or two with that."

Malleus
... what? He doesn't understand. He looks like a confused puppy. What is "nonbeany"?
Please explain. He's very... very confused.
"Gender is a human concept. And... this seems to just be an offshoot."

Pomefiore
All three have the same reaction. Wardrobe change.
Off course. I mean... why not?
Also, Pomefiore dorm exists somewhere off of the gender spectrum.

Savanaclaw
Leona
He just raised an eyebrow and rolled over from his nap, his tail swishing confusedly. You were already tired, explaining what "nonbinary" meant was the last thing you wanted to do.
But then he opened his mouth.
"Why should I care? You're still my herbivore."
And then he pulled you into bed for a midday nap. Naps have no gender.

Ruggie
You told him while his mind and hands were occupied. He wasn't fully listening. Then, the next day, he misgendered you. You corrected him and he was incredibly confused.
"No offense, but since when."
The confused puppy look combined with the cute blush and flat ears when you reminded him was enough to make you forgive him.

Jack
He understands at a very rudimentary level. Like... yeah, gender is a spectrum. You exist somewhere off of the spectrum? Okay, sure, he'll go along with that. Anything for you.
It takes him a bit to figure out the pronouns though. Yes, he uses they/them all the time, but using them consciously is a different story. However, he's a dog. And dogs can be trained. Just remind him when he slips up and he'll try a little harder the next time.
"This is my partner. S/he- they, sorry-"

Ignihyde
Ortho
Ortho is a robot. You don't get more nonbinary than a genderless robot. Welcome to the club.

Idia
He was so glad to hear you say it. He let out a sigh. He hugs you close to his chest.
He's shaking a little. You ask what's wrong.
"I'm... not sure I'm fully a guy... so... I guess we're in the same boat..."
