"Please mummy don't leave me. I don't wanna stay here. I wanna go with you" five years old me, cried to my mum as I hugged her legs in tears. She wanted to leave me and I didn't want to be without her. I don't want to leave Kelly.
My mum pulled me away and stared down at me. She crouch down so we were eye to eye level and smiled softly "I promise to come back honey. It'll just be for a few days. Mummy has to take care of something and once that it done, I'll come back for you okay"
"But I don't want you to go. I don't want you to leave me" I cried and hugged her neck again, I didn't bother hiding my tears and sobs.
My mum pulled me away again and this time she also had tears in her eyes "I'm sorry honey but this is the only solution I can think of. I'll come back for you. I promise" she kissed my cheeks and stood up, turning away from me as she headed towards the exit.
"Mummy!" I yelled attempting to go after her but the nuns held me back "mummy please don't leave me! Please come back! Mummy!" I struggled against their grip to go after her but I was just a little girl and they were stronger.
