Y/n had a secret. She knew she couldn't tell anyone because everyone would get scared and call her a freak.

She had telepathy powers. She could read people's minds if she wanted to, move things with her mind, and transmit her thoughts to others. She feared that her powers were too dangerous and needed to stay concealed.

Lately, Y/n wasn't sure that she would be able to keep her powers a secret for much longer. Thinking deeply about ways to hide her abilities was all she could do. However, her best friend, Varian, seemed to know that something was up.

"Y/n, are you alright?" Varian asked. His big blue eyes were pleading with Y/n.

"Nothing's wrong. Why?" Y/n lied.

"I just...feel like you're hiding something from me. Do you want to talk about it?" Varian continued.

"No, I don't. There's nothing to talk about," Y/n disagreed.

"Please let me know if you ever want to talk about anything, 'kay?" Varian said.

"Sure," Y/n mumbled.

Y/n nervously glanced around her surroundings before heading into the woods. She was going to practice her powers in order to learn how to control them.

I can't let anyone get hurt. Not like before...

"Y/n, where are you going?"

Y/n jumped at Varian's voice.

"Geez, Varian, you scared me!" Y/n hissed.

"S-sorry. I just...wanted to know why you're in the forest," Varian apologized.

"I'm...not doing anything," Y/n lied again. She turned around so that her back was facing Varian.

"Y/n, just tell me what's going on! I'm worried about you," Varian begged.

"Varian, please," I sighed impatiently.

"Don't you trust me? I can help you," Varian implored.

"Just drop it!" Y/n snapped. As she turned around, a rock floated into the air and hurled itself at Varian's face.

"Ow! What was that?" Varian mumbled.

Y/n stumbled backwards.

"Did that rock just hit me? Where did it come from?"

"I-I..."

"What's wrong?"

"I-I didn't mean to-"

"You didn't mean to? What are you talking about? You couldn't have possibly thrown that rock at me," Varian said, looking puzzled.

"But I did!"

"What?"

"I threw that rock at you with my mind, Varian? Don't you see?! I'm dangerous! I need to keep these powers hidden."

Varian's eyes widened at Y/n's words. He couldn't believe what she had said. Mind powers?

"You have mind powers? That doesn't seem so bad," Varian said.

"You just don't get it, Varian! How can you be so dense?" Y/n fumed. "My powers are dangerous. Everyone will call me a freak and I'll end up hurting someone."

"You're not dangerous, Y/n," Varian said slowly.

"Varian, my powers killed someone! He died right in front of my eyes all because I couldn't keep my powers under control," Y/n confessed.

"I'm sure you didn't mean it," Varian began. "I know you won't do it again."

Hot tears trailed down Y/n's face. "How are you not scared of me? Finding out that someone has powers is terrifying. I'm just a monster!"

She collapsed onto the ground and sobbed. Varian sat down beside her and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Y/n, I would never be scared of you. You're the kindest person I know and I know that you didn't mean to kill that person," Varian promised.

"Why?" Y/n sniffled.

Varian hesitated, but continued. "I love you, Y/n. That's why."

Y/n looked up at Varian. "Wh-what?"

"I love you," Varian repeated. "You're not a monster, Y/n and I know that you're a good person despite having mind powers. If you want, I can help you learn to control your powers."

"You mean it?" Y/n wiped her eyes.

"Yes," Varian smiled.

"I-I don't know what to say," Y/n chuckled. "Varian...I love you too."

She suddenly kissed Varian. To her surprise, Varian kissed back! Then, Varian walked Y/n home with his arm around her shoulder.
