Kihyun stands outside the large golden doors, sucking in a quick breath before he walks in. All high-end parties are meretricious, uselessly throwing cash to grandiose the event even if it's a gathering of so-called 'friends', usually translating into business deals. Kihyun pulls the lapels of his checkered blazer and adjusts it, the heels of his shoes tapping against the floorboard in quick steps.

Kihyun is pissed more than his daily dose of anger, the image of Byun Jaemin stepping in to speak for Min Sehyuk searing at the back of his mind. The boy never once put up a fight after Kihyun had blown over him and started hitting him since then. It's annoying to see someone as weak as him supporting and helping others. What's more infuriating is the concerned look in his eyes directed at the blond that used to be on Kihyun. He was always at the receiving end of that friendly hand, something he broke off the moment his fist collided with Jaemin's face.

His eyes search for his parents, the only ones he's familiar with at the party. The older couple is standing hand in hand, chatting with a man with salt and pepper hair, a flute held between his fingers. His mother is adorned in diamonds like many other women attending the event, wearing a silver shimmery dress with long net sleeves and nude high-heel pumps, complementing her husband's deep blue three-piece suit.

The golden ambiance of the hall is assuring if not for the running mouths and high-pitched waves of laughter of the guests. Kihyun grabs a drink from a waiter that passes by him, gulping it down in one go, and walks to where his parents are engaged.

"Speak of the devil and he's here!" Kihyun's father chuckles, patting the boy as he approaches them, bowing to the older man and his parents. "This is Mr. Gong Jicheol and the young lady beside him is Chungha, the one I talked to you about earlier."

Kihyun shakes Jicheol's hand, sending a small smile to his daughter to acknowledge her presence. "I'm Kang Kihyun. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr. Gong."

"Loosen up, son!" Jicheol pulls him, the boy almost bumping into his chest. "I won't be a stranger for long after your and Chungha's engagement."

'Huh?' Kihyun knew he had this coming but didn't expect it to be this soon. When his father mentioned the girl and about their business, praising her intellectual abilities and looks, the raven-head already knew his fate. Something his older sister had been put through. She had been lucky that her husband was a good man but Kihyun wouldn't take a chance.

His next words will mess up his situation but there's nothing he could do about it, better be safe than sorry. "I'm sorry, Mr. Gong. I'm just twenty and I have a whole life ahead of me. Marriage isn't something I plan for at least seven to eight years." He feels his parents glare at the back of his head with his father's pudgy fingers digging into his shoulder, muttering his name in warning. "By no means do I intend to offend you but I'd like you to know my intentions beforehand." The boy bows with a tight-lipped farewell and leaves, walking straight as if a gun is cocked to the back of his head, although, his parents' piercing gazes are no less threatening.
