Three Months Later...

Dimitrescu Vineyard Main Office, Bucharest

Alcina's POV

Looking out from my office window, snow covered the cityscapes of Bucharest. These past three months have been quite a rollercoaster of events. Two days after the incident, I woke up from my coma caused by severe blood loss from my injuries and medical condition. At first, I was at a loss as to what happened to me and the last thing I remembered was (Y/N) before blacking out in the woods. Mother eased me into what happened after the incident and I was distraught when the news of our engagement was canceled. Also, the fact that (Y/N) just left without even saying a word shattered my heart. Mother rest assured us that even after the cancellation, our family is still under their protection but she was given orders that we are not to contact (Y/N) anymore for our safety. Of course being stubborn, I tried any means to contact her but all were in vain. I even planned to travel to Italy but something happened to my traveling documents that either can be processed well or be delayed which to my dismay. All I can do is take time to heal. Not just physically but emotionally... Even drowning myself in work or focusing my attention on other things, I can't help my mind from wondering about her...

"Miss Dimitrescu?... Alcina?... Earth to Alcina!?" Elise said, snapping out of my thoughts.

"I-uh? My apologies... What was that again?" I said

"I know it's out of line to scold your boss but as a friend are you ok? I know a lot has happened to you in the past months but you can't just avoid the issue by preoccupying yourself with work and treating it as if it didn't happen. You just recovered but the sudden off with your engagement races suspicion. At least to me... So please tell me what is wrong?" Elise said

"It's difficult for me and legthful to explain. I can't tell you everything for your own sake. Please never mention this again, Elise. (Sigh) So what's next in my schedule?" I said.

"Too bad boss, I've rescheduled your next appointments for today so they can wait. You can be difficult but your forgetting that one of the reasons you hired me for this job. You needed someone competent enough to level your stubbornness and your mother would be very upset if you fired me. She loves my homemade spring rolls whenever we visit but besides the point. Alcina, tell me so I can help..." Elise said

"You really are unbearable you know that. But you're a competent assistant and a great friend, Elise. Take a seat and I'll tell you..." I said. Taking the seat in front of my desk, I started telling my tale.

"Damn... Alcina. The Mafia. I never thought Miss Machiavelli was deeply involved with a mafia and you were about to marry her. But can I ask, what made you accept the proposal in the first place?." Elise said.

"Do you believe in love at first sight? Gauche it may sound but it really did happen to me. Nine years ago, a year before Father died. Since I was planning to take over the wine business, he would take me to meet business clients and investors at parties or events. At one such event, I met her there. I asked my father if he knows her but he didn't. As years passed, I let it go and forget about (Y/N). Then a few months ago, remember my mother's sudden visit. She announced that I was a potential candidate for a marriage proposal from her mafia connection. At first, I was fully against the idea. Even with Mother's given consideration, I would still be against it. But when I took a look at her picture from her profile, I was drawn back to that moment. It never crossed my mind to ask Mother all those years ago. We could've met sooner. It was a fleeting moment but I never thought her impression on me lasted. Even when I started dating other women, my mind was always drawn to her in some way." I said
