RETURNING TO COUSINS

LILY SAT IN the backseat of her mom's car as she watched the many stores and beach houses pass by.

It was Lily's first year back in Cousin's after the death of her father and if she was being completely honest, she was dreading every second of it.

Lily's father, Mark, had been killed almost two years ago in a car crash.

He was returning home from a late night at work on Christmas Eve, presents for both Lily and Caleb in the trunk of his car.

One second, Mark was waiting at a red light and the next thing that happened, a car drove straight towards him, killing Mark upon impact.

Lily remembered that night perfectly. Sometimes she could still hear her mother's cries and the sound of glass shattering on the hard wood floor.

It was a hard time for the Scott family, especially for Lily. She absolutely adored her father and when she learned he had died, she had completely shut down.

It took Caleb and Conrad months to get Lily the help that she desperately needed.

For months, Lily bottled up all her pain and grief until Caleb and Conrad forced her to deal with it and all at once, Lily unleashed all the hurt and suffering she kept to herself in order to keep her family afloat.

After she came to terms with her grief, she decided to attend therapy in order to fully deal with her grief and learn how to live with it.

Because of this, Lily, Caleb and Audra didn't return to Cousin's Beach that summer.

The three weren't ready to spend the summer in Cousin's after the loss of their father and husband.

It wouldn't have felt right and it wouldn't have been beneficial for them when it was a reminder that their dad would not be visiting during July like Adam and John did.

Now, a year later, Lily was making her return to Cousin's Beach with Caleb and her mother.

To say she was nervous was a bit of an understatement.

This would be her first year in Cousin's without her dad and she knew she'd have a hard time.

"So, are you two excited to see Belly and the boys?" Audra asked as she glanced at her children.
