Chapter 27 - Rayo De Luz

MacKenzie's POV

"That doctor... did he really used to work for Black Hole?" Allegra asks as her and Sue interrogate Ultraviolet who is in the meta cell in the pipeline. I stand off to the side, observing and ready to use my quakes if needed

"Talk to us, or talk to CCPD." Sue says. "The choice is yours. Although I hear their cells are much less comfortable."

Ultraviolet says something in Spanish. "Do you know how I got this little gift?" She asks, switching to English which I am grateful for. "I remember seeing white light everywhere blinding me while I was held down. I was helpless. Then I felt a scalpel slice into me. I fought back, but I was tied down. All I could do was scream... until they cut my voice out of me."

"I'm so sorry." Allegra says. "I didn't know."

"Where's Dr. Olsen?" Ultraviolet questions

"We... don't know." Allegra answers

"He must pay." Ultraviolet says. "He is still out there turning new lab rats into weapons for the highest bidder. Abducting victims who won't be missed when they disappear, like me."

"I never meant for this to happen, I swear." Allegra says

"You abandoned me, cousin." Ultraviolet says. "Left me alone for Dr. Olsen to find." And then she switches to Spanish again, taking the part of her suit that covers her neck up and we see her scars. My stomach twists

"We'll help you get him." Allegra says. "I promise."

"Uh, sidebar please." Sue says, grabbing Allegra's arm and pulling her over to where I'm standing so the three of us can chat. "You want to join her now?"

"This Olsen guy needs to be stopped before he hurts anyone else, and Esperanza's the only one who's had any luck tracking him down." Allegra says

"Okay." Sue says. "We cannot trust her. Black Hole has twisted her mind in ways that you can't even imagine. There's no coming back from that."

"You can't be sure." Allegra says

"Yes, I can." Sue says. "Working with her is a su*c*de mission. You need to know that."

Allegra is silent. "I know what Barry would do." She says and then looks over at me. "And I'm sure I know you well enough to know what you would do too." She leaves our conversation to address Ultraviolet. "I say we go after this doctor together." She opens the cell. "You in, prima?" She asks

Ultraviolet is training Allegra and blasts her powers on the middle cup out of three, destroying only that cup. "Now, generate a single blast that destroys your target, and focus." Ultraviolet says. Allegra lifts her hand and her hand lights up. But nothing happens. "If we're going to face Dr. Olsen together, you need to learn how to fight. Try harder." I watch from the side. Allegra tries again and nothing happens. "Patetico!" Ultraviolet yells at Allegra

"Ouch, I actually know what that one means." I say from the side

Ultraviolet yells at Allegra in Spanish. "I'm doing the best I can!" Allegra exclaims

"It's not good enough." Ultraviolet says

"Oh, you still think you can change her?" Sue asks, walking in. Ultraviolet shoves Allegra and she falls to the ground. I run over to help her up. "She's got this crazy idea that you're not a total lost cause. Noble, but dumb."

"Just stay out of this." Allegra tells Sue

"You think you know your cousin. I know the real Ultraviolet." Sue says. "Let me show you." And she says something in Spanish and the two begin fighting
