Cross is that one guy who think he's a 'main character'. In other word, a hypocrite. He can be seen to be mean to some people but nice to the one he fond too.

Cross wasn't raised in a good environment. This cause him to steal and manipulate other for his own benefits. Later on, he decided to target something bigger.
A savior, frisk's soul. It's full of power and determination  Cross plan worked but at the same time it was backfired since he have to face the consequences of stealing a soul that wasn't his.

Alphonse in the other hand, helped Cross escaped from his execution by a contract. Cross agree to sign the contract but he is not easily deceived. Cross make his own contract and have Alphonse need to agree with it.
