Missed Calls

On the night of the Elections, Sara and Bong were monitoring the results separately.

Si Bong nasa headquarters habang si Sara naman nasa Davao.

They knew they were the leading candidates pero kahit ganun pa man, kinakabahan pa din sila.

In the headquarters, Bong was with his family and friends.

Habang sa Davao naman, nasa bahay lang si Sara kasama ang pamilya niya.

It was 11pm and the results were starting to get clearer and clearer by the minute.

Leading na silang dalawa and when Sara saw that, she decided to sleep the night away.

Sa himbing ng tulog niya, halos wala na siyang marinig sa paligid niya.

Little did she know, someone all the way from Luzon was trying to call her.

Bong's POV

Woohoo congratulations Mr. President panalo na!

Bati ng mga tao sa akin. Ang saya ko, finally after so many years of being verbally abused by some people, I can finally redeem my family's name.

At habang tinitingnan ko ang mga tao sa paligid ko, hindi ko maiwasang mapangiti.

My wife is here celebrating along with our sons and friends pero bakit parang may kulang?

I mean I'm happy. I've prepared for this moment all my life but why do I feel incomplete? What the hell is wrong with me?

Hindi ko maiwasang itanong sa sarili ko habang nakaupo ako at patuloy na sumusubaybay sa live results galing Comelec.

I felt like I was missing something but I didn't know what it was.

My head was so busy thinking about it when all of a sudden, my son Sandro approached me.

Congratulations to us pops! Finally the elections are over and we won!

Nakangiting sabi niya sa akin.

I'm so proud of this boy. Simula pagkabata, I knew he was gonna follow my footsteps at hindi nga ako nagkamali.

Instead of answering him, I quickly stood up and hugged my boy.

When I did that, bigla naman siyang nagsalita.

Wait, did you congratulate Sara? I was trying to call her kanina pa when I got the results for my run as Congressman pero hindi naman ako sinasagot.

Mejo malungkot na sabi ni Sandro sa akin.

But when I heard what he said, it hit me.

That was it. This victory is not complete without me talking to the best partner that I could ever have.

Kaya pala parang may kulang. I said to myself

After Sandro told me that, hindi ko na siya nasagot at may humila na agad sa kanya para i congratulate siya.

Liza was busy entertaining our guests so I decided to call Sara.

At first I was really excited to hear what she had to say. Naging close na din kasi kami nung kampanya at sa araw araw na nakakasama ko siya, I really started to appreciate her simplicity.

We became really good friends to the point na ginawa na kaming love team ng mga tao.

Nakakatawa man, but we decided to go along with it para ma entertain na din ang younger audiences namin.

Nakakatuwa kasi ang mga bata. Minsan nagugulat nalang kami na monthsary na pala namin sa TikTok.

At dahil natural na palatawa at palabiro din si Sara, kapag nasa rally kami, sinasadya din namin minsan pakiligin ang mga bata. And when we do that, bigla kaming magtatawanan at magbibiruang

"Oh.. baka sa susunod ikasal na tayo sa tiktok ah"

Pero kahit ganun pa man, we remained professional. Alam din naman din kasi ng mga asawa namin na ganun nga ang nangyayari kaya pati sila natatawa.

Minsan sila pa ang nag aadjust at di sumasama para magka "Ayuda" ang mga supporters namin or should I say fans?

Habang iniisip ko yun, bigla akong natawa.

I told myself as I continued dialling Sara.

Nakailang ring na ang phone niya, pero hindi sumasagot. Then finally I heard the voice prompt na cannot be reached ang number niya.

So I tried again not only once but almost a thousand times.

For some reason, parang bigla akong na asar kasi ayaw niyang sagutin ang tawag ko.

What's up with this woman this time? Di ata nakakain ng hapunan to ah at pati ako sinusungitan.

Hmmm.. bahala na nga. I'll just enjoy the party.

I told myself as I went to Liza and started dancing my famous lolo moves.

The people around us were cheering pero for some reason, asar na asar pa rin talaga ako na ayaw ako sagutin ng bise ko.

Kala ko ba bff's kami tapos dinedeadma ako? Parang hindi naman ata tama yun.

I said to myself pero dahil masaya naman ang gabi, I continued enjoying the night with my family and friends.

Or should I say, I tried to.
