Two years. That was the time that had elapsed since the end of Endgame, since the calming peace and order had settled throughout the Interspace.
It was also the amount of time that had passed since King and Purple had begun doing research on how to bring the Dark Lord back from the Void. They had made extreme progress, despite the occasional argument. A reason they'd had so much progress was little sleep; another was fewer meals. Nevertheless, they were determined to finish the job, and they decided that nothing would prevent them from doing so.
At this very moment, they were in the library, furiously skimming through the thousands of books, trying to find a final answer to their problem: requirements for bringing someone back from the Void. They knew there had to be some conditions, but they hadn't found any yet. Suddenly...
"Found it!" King exclaimed, slamming the book he was holding onto the table. Purple jumped, then sighed. "King, would you stop doing that?"
"What's wrong with being excited?" King asked, confused.
"Never mind," Purple replied, agitated, "What did you find?"
"Look here," King said, pointing to the book. Purple leaned in.
"To bring someone back from the Void..."
"You must sacrifice another living being," King finished enthusiastically.
Purple didn't really like the idea, but world domination was all he cared about right now.
"All right," he said slowly, "Should we take, like, an animal, or..."
"Nah," King replied, "I believe reviving the Dark Lord requires something more... advanced."
"Wait." Purple held up a hand. "You're saying that we should...?!"
"Got a problem?" King asked, quietly but menacingly.
"Uh... no," Purple replied as calmly as he could. A sweat broke out on his forehead.
"Good." King straightened and turned to Purple with a sly grin. "You ready to go?"
"Yeah," Purple replied, standing up as well, "Let's do this!"
The two stepped out of their mansion into the bright afternoon sunlight, King holding his staff of power, Purple equipping his elytra. The mansion overlooked a large village which King ruled. The villagers, despite his lack of manners, respected King, as well as Purple. Purple didn't want anything to happen to the village or its inhabitants. And yet...
"Are you getting the sacrifice from our village?" Purple asked, looking up at King.
"No," King replied, "From another out-of-the-way village."
"Mmm."
"It's that way," King said, pointing with his staff towards the northeast.
"The village?" Purple asked cautiously.
"As well as the entrance," King replied, nodding.
"Right," Purple said, taking a deep breath, "Let's go."
They soared into the air: two sticks out to do their business.
They had thought that they wouldn't be discovered, as they'd prepared so much and for so long.
But they were wrong, as they'd missed a specific detail, involving serious magic that they knew nothing about.
