Chapter 2

I HUGGED my pillow tight and opened my eyes, I smiled because I have a great sleep. My eyes widen when I look at the clock. Shit. It's almost 9 in the morning!

Bumangon ako tumatakbong pumunta as banyo para maligo. I only have thirty minutes to prepare kasi the interview will start at nine. Interview pa lang, late na ako. How much more kung may trabaho na?! I shouldn't think about that, after all, I'm not certain that I'll be hired. For now, I need to hurry!

When the tricycle stop, inabot ko na kay manong driving 'yung 50 pesos. May sukli pa sana kaso nagmamadali na talaga ako.

"Manong, next time ko nalang po kuhanin 'yung thirty ko po," sabi ko at nagpasalamat. I hurriedly came out without getting an answer from him.

Saulo ko naman mukha n'ya, sayang thirty ko lalo na't nagtitipid ako kaya sisingilin ko iyon next time.

I was mesmerized by the tall building that is front of me. Wow, walang gan'to kataas na building sa probinsya. Natauhan ako ng binati ako ng guard. Patay, It's already 09:15 when I glance at my wristwatch. Binati ko ang guard pabalik tapos tumakbo papunta sa front desk.

"The interview is in the CEO's office. It's on the
Twelfth Floor," she said and smiled even if I didn't ask. Nagpasalamat nalang ako at umalis na papuntang Elevator.

I was practicing my speech in my mind for the interview when I'm still inside the Elevator. Tumunog ang Elevator means that I'm already on the right floor. I head outside and my mouth forms O. I think there are 20 girl applicants. Ate
Rassia is right, madami nga ang aplikante.

Halata na galing sa magandang pamilya ang iba base sa kanilang mga nagagandahang mga suot. Gaano ba ka-gwapo ang CEO? Mas gwapo pa ata mga kapatid ko, eh.

I checked out the applicants, ang ganda nila lahat.

I looked at myself, I'm only wearing a white polo shirt paired with a black skirt. I also paired it with black flat shoes. I didn't have any make-up on my face, in contrast with those applicants.

Kinuha ko ang lip tint sa bag ko at nilagyan ang maputlang labi dahil sa kaba. Inayos ko na rin ang nakalugay na maalon kong buhok na hindi ko naayos kanina sa pagmamadali.

Lalo akong kinakabahan sa tuwing may lumalabas sa office na malungkot ang mukha, a sign that hindi sila natanggap. After a decade of waiting, it's finally my turn and I'm the last
applicant.

"Excuse me, Ms. The CEO will have his lunch already. And the interview will resume at 1 pm," the pregnant woman announced and smiled.

Suminghap ako out of disappointment. After standing here for almost two hours, pababalikin lang ako mamaya. I peek at my wrist watch and it's 11:30 in the morning. Grabe naman!

"S-sige po, Ma'am. Babalik nalang ako mamaya, " malungkot kong sabi, wala naman akong magagawa.

"Hey, just kidding! You can come in, the CEO is waiting for you. Good luck!" she chuckled then go back to her table.

Kung hindi lang 'yon buntis... nako! Nagpasalamat pa rin alo kahit naiinis ako sa kaniya. Pasalamat siya na kinakabahan ako kaya next time ko nalang s'ya bibigwasan. Hmp!

I made a sign of a cross and then come inside the CEO's office with my trembled knees. Dumiretso ako sa table ng CEO. I saw his nameplate written in a glass in the middle of the table. 'Sancho Etienne Z. Austria' and under it is 'Cheif Executive Officer.'

"Good morning po, Sir." I greeted.

Nakayuko ito habang may binabasang papeles. He has a dark messy hair. He is wearing a formal suit but it's is not a hindrance to notice his broad body. Woah, hotty.

"Sit down," wow, he got a deep husky voice. He didn't respond to my greetings. Hmp, suplado.

Umupo ako gaya ng kan'yang sinabi.

"Hand me your resume," he commanded again without glancing at me. I sighed and kinuha ko ito sa bag binigay sa kan'ya.

Binasa n'ya ang aking resume habang tumatango.

After reading it, tumingin siya sa akin. OMG!

I can't help but stare at his face. He has tired dark eyes, thick eyebrows, a pointed nose, and kissable lips. Para siyang may lahing spanish.And...and... I saw his lips smirk! Doon ako natauhan. Namula ang mukha ko.

"Ang gwapo mo po, Sir, pero hindi ko po kayo type," ngumiti ako ng hilaw.

His smirk was replaced with an amused smile. Type ko talaga siya pero nakakahiya, he saw me checking him out!

"That's great! I like to have a secretary who's not attracted to my looks so that her job will be fulfilled perfectly," he said.

I only answered him with a nervous smile, he smirks again when he saw it.

"So, why should I hire you as my secretary, Ms. Arnais?" he asked seriously, gone the smirk. I breathe in as I recollect what I memorized.

I gulped, "You should hire me as your secretary because I am flexible and adaptable to work for your company. If you give me an opportunity then I assure you that I will do my best to meet your expectations. I'm eager to learn new things as a
beginner. I've gained knowledge while... "

"That answer is too common. Give me a unique answer that... why should I hire you," he said cutting my words.

He was tapping the table using his fingers. He looks so bored. That's given, he's worn out.

I blinked my eyes twice. Ate Rassia is right, need talaga na unique ang answer. Hindi pa nakatulong ang kumakalam kong tiyan. I'm so hungry, I haven't eaten breakfast and it's already time for lunch. Basta, bahala na.

"L-lumayas po ako sa amin, Sir. Kung hindi niyo po ako tatanggapin, mamamatay po ako, Sir. Kasi wala po akong maibabayad sa apartment ko, kung wala akong maibabayad, papaalisin po ako. Kung papaalisin po ako, wala akong matitirahan. Kung wala po akong matitirhan, magpapalaboy-laboy ako sa kalsada at mamatay rin sa gutom kalaunan. Kaya dapat niyo akong tanggapin, Sir, kasi kung hindi, mamatay po ako," mahabang saad ko.

Hinabol ko pa ang hininga ko pagkatapos. I was just saying what I like to say without thinking! Hahanap nalang siguro ako ng ibang trabaho. Kasi naman, eh!

"You are hired," he declared and my eyes widened.

"T-talaga po, Sir!?" hindi makapaniwalang sabi ko.

"Yeah. Baka mamatay ka, konsiyensya ko pa, " he said then stood up at pumasok sa isang pinto sa loob ng office niya.

Nanatili pa rin akong nakaupo, hindi makapaniwalang natanggap ako. Natanggap ako sa trabaho para hindi ako mamatay!
