They're actually really good friends. Gonta likes to show Peko different bugs he thinks she'd like.
And since Gonta was raised by wolves, I'd image that he'd introduce Peko to them, and since wolves can be both friendly AND unafraid, Peko can pet them without worrying that they'd run away (She's shown wanting to pet fluffy animals in Danganronpa S)
