The girl and the stone sit together under the bridge

The girl tilts her head, scrutinizing the stone

No bumps

No bruises

No scars

No hollowness

Beautiful and smooth and bright

She wishes she could find a flaw

The girl runs her fingers over the stone

And becomes a child again

Her short nails painted pink

Her blonde hair frizzy

Her hazel eyes sparkling

Her crooked teeth in a smile

Her body was strong

And her mind stronger

But years are a landslide

Caving her in

The sunset is bloody red

In the failing light, the stone is different

Cold and ethereal and perfect

She used to be perfect, too

Beautiful and smooth and bright

And then the stone is sinking to the bottom of the river

Never to be viewed by man again
