Age 10

I guess it's me.
I conclude when no one in my family follows me.
A couple of days past and I'm still alone in my room.
No one noticing that I've skipped school.
No one noticing I haven't eaten.
No one noticing me at all.
Until finally one day I hear noises downstairs.
I've only left to go to the bathroom.
And get water.
I haven't seen my family members.
BAM!
The door swings open and a young Louis runs into my room.

"Hey Leah!"

"Hi." I say quietly.

"You look weird." He says.

My eyes are puffy from nonstop crying.

My cheeks are hollow, My skin is white.

"Let me take you to your parents."
Louis says.

"No, I'm still waiting for them."

"Why are you waiting?" He says curiously.

"Because I wanted to see if they'd notice I wasn't there...They haven't."

Louis's face looks terrified.
"Leah, how long have you been here?"

"4 1/2 days." I mumble through a broken voice.

"Oh no!" Little Louis says.

He bends down and puts my arm around his shoulder.
"Let me help you down."

"No." I cry weakly.

Then everything turns black.

~

"You could've lost her!" A Doctor yells at my parents.

My eyes begin opening.

"Hello Leah." A doctor says.

"Who are you?" I ask.

I look down and there's a plastic tube in my arm.

"What's going on?" I say.

"You are sleep deprived, and starved." The doctor begins. "We're feeding you and we're gonna let you sleep okay honey?" She says.

"Okay" I say.

I look at my dad.
"He's worried visibly."

"How could you do this Leah? Seriously you could've eaten. And you didn't go to school? What are you? And idiot?!" My mom yells.

~
Over the next year my parents were investigated by CPS.
The doctor reported them and they looked like unfit parents.

"Please don't do that to ever again." Little Louis says on our swing set."

"I'm sorry." I say quietly.

"Why did you do it?"

"They treated random kids on the street nicer than me. She ignored me when I wouldn't watch Carrie. I had homework to do I didn't pay attention. Carrie fell out of her play pen, she got a small bruise on her knee. My mom wouldn't forgive me. She didn't speak to me for two weeks. So I thought maybe she'd care if I was doing nothing."

"But, did it work?"

"No." I say.

"My dad cares though."

"Really? He didn't notice either." Louis says.

"No! He cares!" I say.
