THE DARKNESS OVERWHELMED SPENCER as she squinted her eyes, trying to look out for the trace of air that would alert her of Vecna’s presence, making sure she didn’t knock into anything at the same time. Her toe had been stubbed about ten times now, her shoes lying in a heap in the corner of the entrance hall of the Creel house along with Max’s, Lucas’ and Erica’s. The other three, not having the same ability to see the stream of air, had to make due with blue lanterns, making them able to walk around the house without falling into things. While Spencer could, yes, see Vecna’s trace, she could not in fact see in the dark, despite the others thinking she could and taking the lanterns for themselves.
She couldn’t blame them, though, if she were in their positions, she would have taken one of them for herself, too. But, right now, she was in their position and she didn’t have one, so she was stuck walking head first into shelves, knees first into armchairs and feet first into doorways. She tried not to think about it, focusing on the fact that she was at an advantage of being able to see the trace, and that if she found him first, she’d be able to follow him instead of running back to one of the others and write out a note to them.
