There is so much to say about him that he earned himself not 1 but 2 chapters in the row. This chapter will focus most on him as a character: his past and future plans in Sumeru.
Sumeru is definitely spoiling us with this blueberry guy lore. His story crumbs can be found in the notes scattered around various locations of Sumeru rainforest as well as in the new artifacts set description.

So in simple terms – a group of researchers going on the expedition. The subject of expertise seems to be ancient machines (ruin guards, etc.) and their mechanical parts. The record's been written by a trainee Dastur, Zandik. So far nothing too suspicious, so let's continue reading exploring.

We get to know this somewhat special researcher Zandik more. Now we can make a conclusion that he is interested in ancient ruin-machines, greatly values his time and gets upset when it goes to waste and also likes to work in secret, keeping low profile. Sounds familiar?
In Genshin official manga, Il Dottore is seen working in his secret lab Haeresys with his assistant Krupp. When the 139th test subject fails, Harbinger starts losing patience and even threatens Krupp to turn him into a ruin guard. In Tartaglia's story quest, it's mentioned that ruin guard research is Dottore's personal passion.
