The first ever Harbinger... My, there's a lot to say about this old man right here.

First of all – a Khaenri'ah survivor?

Let's take a look at other 2 characters that we 100% know are from Khaenri'ah and compare their looks to his. There surely are a few similarities.

I can see 2 main similarities and both of them are related to eyes

I can see 2 main similarities and both of them are related to eyes. First off, the pupils themselves. All 3 characters have 4 corner star shaped pupils (most visible in Dainslief and Kaeya).

Next – the masks (and eyepatch). All of them are covering their RIGHT eye. Coincidentally, we have a special enemies' drop material that is dropped by Shadowy Husks and abyss heralds/lectors. Funny enough, Shadowy Husks and abyss lectors/heralds, in the Archon Quests, were confirmed to be the soldiers from none other but Khaneri'ah itself.

Left and middle statuettes are missing one eye. Unlike the characters above, these drops seem to be missing the LEFT eye instead of right.

Gloomy Statuette's (first from the right) descriptions says: "An idol made in the likeness of some unknown person. Even though this carving has seen many years pass, it still has not been damaged in any way. It seems that its previous owner must have cherished it like some holy icon.". 'Holy icon' implies that the person this statuette is supposed to worship must have been a big deal – a king, even a god, perhaps?

In the recent 2.8 version event "Hidden Strife" we get to take a look at Diluc's letters that he received from various Teyvat figures: Albedo, Alice, Jean, Grand Master Varka of KoF (Knights of Favonius) and finally – Kaeya. If you were curious and went exploring – you could find Diluc's replies to all of these character letters in specific places.

Replies (and not only that) to Kaeya could be found on the roof of Knights of Favonius HQ. One of the letters Kaeya has hidden there (not a reply from Diluc) says:

Coming back to the statuettes. One-eyed? Check. Picturing important person (king)? Check.

The Shadowy Husks drops seem to be the statuettes of the one-eyed king Irmin of Khaenri'ah. Now, if we took a look at the characters, the same question remains: why are they covering their right eyes if their past king didn't have left eye? Is it a protest?

In Pierro's case – possibly yes. If we took alook at the Mocking Mask lore, this is what it says:

So, our 1st Fatui Harbinger failed to convince the ruler of the country (We can assume that it refers to Khaenri'ah) because his knowledge level was nothing compared to 'sages'

So, our 1st Fatui Harbinger failed to convince the ruler of the country (We can assume that it refers to Khaenri'ah) because his knowledge level was nothing compared to 'sages'. It resulted in Khaenri'ah getting destroyed and Fatui as organisation getting created with The Jester/Pierro becoming the first ever Harbinger.

Being terribly wounded by such events, it wouldn't be too surprising that wearing a mask covering different eye than one-eyed king Irmin's is considered a protest. Irmin failed to make a proper decision and it resulted in the fall of Khaenri'ah.
