Dream a little dream of me

Being very careful to not flash the crowd of people waiting to catch a glimpse of one of the more famous Avengers or one of Tony's other equally famous guests, Artemis got out of her car and handed her keys to the waiting valet. She didn't let anyone drive her baby, but sacrifices needed to be made when you went to a Tony Stark party in the city. Making sure to tug the short hem of her form fitting sparkling champagne pink dress down a little she tucked her small clutch under her arm and made her way inside. For a second she worried she'd be turned away at the door but thankfully Happy was working security tonight and waved her on through. Piling into the crowded elevator she tucked herself away in the back keeping to herself since she didn't know anyone. Artemis was really regretting her decision to not come with Natasha or Thor when they offered to carpool.

Stepping out of the elevator and into a huge room with several floors, all looking out at the spectacular view that was Manhattan, she clamped her jaw shut so as to not look like a fish out of water. This was insane. She, a nobody, was standing in the Avengers original homebase. Moving to mingle amongst the crowded room of the party floor at the Avengers Tower, Artemis sought out the few X-Men who said they'd be able to make it. She'd yet to come here before tonight so she took her time exploring while she looked for Kitty and her boyfriend, Bobby or Logan and Charles. Anyone at all that she knew so she didn't feel so out of place. Sure she had her new teammates, but they were all currently busy being surrounded by their adoring fans. Not seeing anyone else she knew for the last ten minutes she did spy Bucky lurking by the bar practically chugging whiskey after whiskey so Artemis made her way over to him.

After their talk the other morning things seemed to calm down between them. At least he wasn't running in the opposite direction from her anymore and was actually talking to her without a chaperone. Chuckling to herself she weaved her way through the crowded dance floor. The look of absolute terror on his face when he realized she'd trapped him with food had been priceless. Everyone knew the way to get a man to sit still was to put a plate in front of him. She'd learned that lesson well with Logan over the years. It really hadn't been as horrible as she thought it would be. A little awkward at first for sure but it went fine over all. She bit back a grin as she remembered their talk.

Taking a sip of her tea Artemis tipped up an eyebrow as she looked over at the handsome man to her left. "Now that you are technically trapped by your desire to eat this lovely breakfast I made, how about we have that talk?" As he choked on his bite of eggs she passed Bucky the mug of black sludge that he called coffee. "Relax, Barnes. This chat should be pretty painless. All I want is for us to be friends. Is that something you want?" She was nervous. What if after that day in the archery training room she'd screwed up any chance of them being friends?

Gulping down several large sips of his piping hot coffee to clear the food from his throat, Bucky rasped out, "Of course I want to be your friend. I just–" Roughly clearing his throat a couple times he took a gasping breath holding up his hand for her to give him a second. When he could speak his voice rasped a little. "Sorry, you just took me by surprise."
