The Face Reveal

I appear again like one of those frogs that comes up once a year out of sand to drink water and go hibernate again. I thought of this oneshot at least a year ago but never wrote it. Now's the last chance before the real reveal though, and I know it's not going to be in person but this is how I imagine it would've been if Dream had done it at a comicon or something. Enjoy :)

After all this time, this was the day. Dream had 30 million subs on youtube and who knows how many other passive fans, but it seemed like all of them showed up to this event. Crowds flooded from miles around, across states and even countries. God knows the advertising wasn't for nothing.

Dream weaved his way through the multitudes, savoring his last bit of anonymity.
He thought it'd be funny to wear George's glasses and merch. A stroke of genius, really, since there were so many people sporting the same products, he didn't stick out.

He felt a tug on his sleeve and turned around.
George pushed the paper-plate smiley face mask up into his chocolatey hair. "I can't-"
Dream quickly pulled it down. "Shhh."

George lifted it again with a scowl. "But I literally can't s-"
"Shhhh." Dream lowered it. George caught his arm.

"Dre-" George bit off the name halfway through. "Stop."
Dream leaned close and whispered, "Shut up before they recognize your voice."
"But I can't see a thing! The eyeholes are terrible on this stupid mask."
"Hey-" Dream poked the center where his nose was- "don't insult the brand. You're too obvious without it. Just hold on to me."
Talking out here sent a thrill of excitement and terror through him. Bringing George on his adventure was a big risk, given how conspicuous they were together. But it was more fun this way. As long as the idiot didn't get them spotted.

Dream pulled George's hood up around the other's head, admiring how his merch looked on George, then he checked that no one around had heard them.
At least the mask didn't stand out. Loads of people had their own homemade or bought at a stand here. The number of cosplayers also helped.
Dream smiled as he saw a particularly good DSMP c!dream team cosplayer trio and had to suppress the urge to compliment them on it. It warmed his heart how many people worked so hard on things like this; he couldn't quite comprehend it enough to put the feeling into words.

Dream thought he saw someone glancing in their direction suspiciously, so he pointed away and screamed, "Oh my god is that Sapnap?!" making sure to pitch his voice differently.
He took George's hand and they escaped in the ensuing confusion. Dream chuckled to himself. Sapnap was busy doing a meet-and-greet elsewhere.

"Sooo clever," George drawled once they slowed down.
Dream rolled his eyes, giving him a light reminder to be quiet. He indulged in a few more minutes of walking among his fans, knowing he'd probably never be able to do it like this again. Then time was up.

George rolled the microphone between his hands. Stupid Dream making me go out first.
"Okay, dude, it's easy: just introduce me and then Dream." Sapnap had a hand on George's shoulder.
"I know. I know. It's just a big moment."
"Hey, just relax. It's fine."
"Right." George shifted his weight from foot to foot. He'd changed out of Dream's silly little disguise from earlier, but part of him wanted to put the mask back on. It was just so different, being in front of a camera and being in front of an actual audience you could see and hear

The techie gave him a nod, and Sapnap gave him a last pat on the back as George opened the curtain and stepped onto the stage.

The cheers were immediate; and George was smiling before he even realized it. He gave a small wave and the shouting got louder. He wanted to block the blinding spotlight, but instead he swallowed a dry throat and lifted the microphone.
"You guys ready to see Dream?"
