XII: Mint and Grapes

"Elaine! Ang bola!"

Now, why does that sounds so familiar?

"Dalian mo!"

I jump from the roof of the Casas residence. May kataasan ito. But with the help of Ella's power, I was able to float down and land on my feet with ease. I quickly ran after her into an alley where our target had disappeared into.

The black ball was heavy on my hand as I held it dearly in my palm. Lumiko ako at muling tumalon sa ibabaw ng isang pang bahay. The vengeful ghost was on the other side of the street. Nakatingin ito sa amin bago pumasok sa isang tindahan.

With a raise of her hand, Ella lifted me off the roof at muli na namang ibinaba ako sa lupa. Both of us crossed the street and entered the grocery store. Maraming mamimili sa loob and it'll be quite difficult kung dito pa magka rambulan sila Ella so we opted to retreat.

I helped a few people that had fell down. Baka magka stampede pa. Nang makalabas na ang lahat, I closed the door and locked it before following Ella.

I hid behind a corner, sumisilip at naghihintay sa signal ni Ella. The ball on my hand were shaking kaya mas hinawakan ko ito ng mahigpit.

This is my first mission matapos ang halos isang buwan na pagtre-training ng martial arts at pag gamit ng baril. This is also the reason why my grades has been dropping lately at pinapagalitan ng parents ni Kila. Messing this up would rendered my training useless. And losing him, that I cannot afford. Siya ang magiging susi namin para malaman ang kuta ng kanilang grupo.

Paulo Casas, the vengeful entity we're chasing is a member of the same group who attack my school. Isang buwan narin pero hindi pa rin sila nahuhuli, even with the help of a few Grim Reapers closed by.

"Elaine!"

Finally Ella signaled. Kaagad ako lumapit sa likod ng multo at ididikit ko na sana ang itim na bula sa kanya, pero humarap ito at itinulak ako dahilan para tumilapon ang katawan ko ng ilang hakbang.

My back hit a shelf at nagsihulog ang mga bote sa paanan ko. I can feel one of the shards hit my cheeks at agad na tinulungan ako ni Ella makatayo.

I charged after Paulo, swinging my fist into his face, kicking him, but he only chuckled, unfazed - before disappearing out of my sight.

"F-ck!" Mura ko dahil sa inis sa sarili. "I'm sorry, I messed up."

"Wala kang kasalan. Tara na baka maabutan pa tayo ng pulis."

We departed at agad na nagtungo ako sa Tirare. Pinagdiskitahan ko ang mga upuan sa labas ng camping van at sinipa ang mga ito. We were so close! Mahuhuli na e! Why do I have to be so weak?! Napasuntok ako sa puno at natigil lang ng dumating ang isang kotse.

Eve came out of it and I struggled to not to look too disheveled. Inayos ko ang buhok na nakalugay at itinago sa bulsa ang kamay na pinansuntok ko sa puno.

"Hi," I greeted Eve with an unsure smile. Tiningyan niya lang ako at nauna pumasok sa loob ng camping van. Sumunod ako at umupo sa sopa. Maybe I'll just sleep this anger off.

Eve stood between my legs at may kung anong pinahid sa pisnge ko. My eyes were closed kaya napa ngiwi nalang ako dahil sa hapdi. "What are you doing?" tanong ko nang hindi parin binubuksan ang mga mata.

"Ano bang mga pinaggagawa mo at nagkasugat ka sa pisnge?" Eve tilted my head up.

"I tripped at nadapa sa mga batuhan."
