Diane's POV

the next day i woke up and got a call

"hey sweetie how's it going" my mom asked me "hey mom, it's been good so far" i tell her "honey, i'm sorry i have to say this over the phone but, you father has cancer" my moms voice breaks "oh my god, are you ok, is he ok" i question my voice becoming shaking  "im ok baby, but he's sleeping now, they caught it late, he doesn't have much time" she explains i feel tears welling up in my eyes "i'll talk to one of the Commanders today to see if i can come home early" i cried "i love you" she tells me "love you too bye" i responded and hung up

 we were doing an evaluation today i tried to make sure i was just like my normal self 

there weren't enough seats so charlie put me next to Maverick, Michelle and Goose weren't there 

"oh yeah before i forget, Michelle wanted me to give you this, told me not to read it" i handed him a folded paper

he smirked opening it and reading it, i narrowed my eyes at him and continued my work 

me and maverick talked a lot while we wrote the evaluation "did you ask her out yet" i asked him "ya she said no" he lied to me i deadpan looking over at him 

i knew he was lying michelle would never say no to him

he laughed knowing i knew she said yes 

"no seriously  when is it" i asked him "there's no date" he shrugs getting up 

i see slider laughing from the seat in front of me

when mav walked by him he used the model plane to make a crash "crash and burn huh mav" he comments , maverick leaned on the table and sniffed around "Slider... you stink"Maverick told him 

Slider turned around and i made a disgusted face and moved my hand like something actually stank 

he smelled himself and i laughed at him

after i handed in the evaluation i went to Viper's office and asked if i could go home for a few days to say goodbye and go to the funeral which he agreed 

later that day me and Michelle were supposed to go to a volleyball game that was happening on the beach but michelle was like "oh i don't feel good, go without me" 

so i did i sat in the hot sun alone watching Goose and Maverick play against Iceman and Slider

i had on the same jean shorts from the other day and a black bathing suit top 

Slider and iceman weren't up by a lot but maverick said he had things to take care of and left Goose asked me to play with him 

"I don't know i'm not great" i shrugged "you'll be fine c'mon" Goose pulled me out of my seat and over to the court

i was standing in front of the net and Slider was in front of me

"hey slider... my eyes are up here" i pointed to my face laughing at his embarrassed face 

Iceman started with the ball, he deep served it and i had to run to bump it then  Goose set me up to spike it over 

and we got the point 

we rallied for a while and me and Goose ended up winning 

Michelle's POV

today i stayed home, in the note i gave to Diane to give to Maverick it said to come here at 5:30

so im cooking something while i wait for him 

the doorbell rang and i went to the door  to see him standing there

"finally" i rolled my eye jokingly as he stood in front of me he came inside and we talked as i cooked 

"hey do you mind if i take a quick shower" Maverick asks me "sure upstairs first door on the right" i tell him and continued cooking 

after he finished i gave him some of my brother's clothes he had here 

we talked and talked for hours

Diane's POV

i ended up staying out with Goose till it was dark and i drove back to Michelle's house 

as i pulled into the driveway i saw Mav's motorcycle here i narrowed my eyebrows and laughed a little bit

i went inside and saw his jacket on the chair too

"honey i'm home" i called out i heard things falling upstairs and an out of breath Michelle stumbles out of her room "hey D" she sheepishly laughs "i thought you'd be out tonight" she added 

"well Michelle, it's 10:30 but i guess i'll leave now. Tell Mav i said hi" i smiled and left leaving her and Maverick

i drove to where Goose and Mav are staying and knocked on the door

"Annie?" Goose asked "Michelle and Mav are.. having fun so can i stay here please" i asked him 

he looked at me and smiled "ya come in" he told me 

we sat on the couch with his arm around me 

"what's wrong" he asked me noticing i was picking at my nails "huh? nothing im fine" i sighed looking up at him "no your not, what happened" he asked again "my Dad's dying" i replied tears filling in my eyes again he pulled my close and i cried in his arms as he rubbed my back "i love you" i tell him "i love you too" he kissed my face as i pulled away from him 

i smiled and we fell asleep on the couch together
