True to her word, Mahiru spent a long time that night coming up with a plan to counter the motive, and after some soul searching, she finally thought of something. It wasn't the best or most effective plan by any means, but she figured it would be the absolute safest option.
Unfortunately, she spent so long deliberating a plan that she ended up missing out on a fair bit of sleep. So she practically rolled out of bed when the morning announcement played. She did however, double check to make sure she looked presentable before she left. Making sure she had her tie done up straight and her camera in hand, she headed out for the restaurant.
However, the moment she took a step outside, she ran into a familiar face. Despite being on the girl's side of the hotel, none other than Fuyuhiko stood outside Mahiru's cottage. He had his back turned to her, but turned around flustered when he heard the door open.
Oh great... Mahiru thought, THIS will wake me up.
"Morning Fuyuhiko..." she retained a pleasant tone of voice but her facial expression made it clear that she wasn't happy to see him, "what are you doing over by the girls cottages?"
"Feh...Just my luck...First thing I see in the morning is your whorish mouth..." he grumbled, "sorry not sorry, but can we cut the chit-chat? I happen to be in a bad mood and don't feel like talking."
"When are you NOT in a bad mood and not feel like talking?" Mahiru made a good point, "you look tired though...Did you not get much sleep last night?"
"Did you not just hear me?" Fuyuhiko grumbled, "I'm on my way back to my cottage. Leave me alone."
"Back? From where?" Mahiru inquired.
"What part...of what I'm saying...ISN'T getting through to you!?" Fuyuhiko snapped, "it's none of your business where I've been!"
"It is when your actions inadvertently affect everyone else on this island," Mahiru snarked, "and of course...I already KNOW where you've been."
"Wha...what!?"
"You went and played the game last night, didn't you? Behind everyone's back," she accused, "don't think I don't see that suspicious looking envelope under your arm."
Sure enough, Fuyuhiko held a moderately large paper envelope under his arm, which he tried to unsuccessfully hide behind his back as soon as Mahiru pointed it out.
"What's in it Fuyuhiko?" she questioned sternly, "I don't expect you to tell me, but know that I'm onto whatever you're plotting."
"S-Shut up! What gives you the right to interrogate me!?" Fuyuhiko exploded. Mahiru couldn't help but roll her eyes at his predictability.
"I wouldn't be if you were just honest-"
"What, you find me disagreeable? It bothers you I left you idiots behind and acted on my own?" he leered in closer and closer, beginning to spit in Mahiru's face, "well, what are you going to do about that!? You gonna give me "justice", like you did Komaeda!?"
"I never said that..." Mahiru calmly wiped her face. Fuyuhiko turned tail and began to stormed off.
"Don't come anywhere near me again! If you do, I swear I'll kill you then and there!"
Before he could go anywhere, Mahiru suddenly grabbed his arm. Her grip was tight, and stopped Fuyuhiko in his tracks. Fuyuhiko turned around, practically foaming at the mouth from rage, and he raised his hand to bitchslap her. Mahiru however, did not flinch.
"I don't know what's going on with you, but clearly whatever's in that envelope scared you," she said calmly, "you've got two choices. Either you talk things out with us, or you go off and grieve on your own. You're immature, but I hope you know that you can't just suffer in silence...If you do, you'll eventually break and commit an atrocity."
