Chapter 0: Prologue|The Past

Y/n POV

I sighed as I watch the view of the city from the tall building. There's so much beauty here and yet, there is still mistreatment going on here. Well, I couldn't argue about it since after all, it's Ursus. As the sun rises, I gaze upon the sky.

"Well, time to go. Wouldn't want to keep them waiting." I went back inside the building and went outside to the streets to see how things are going.

"Y/n!" A voice called out to me at a distance. I turned and saw my friend, Kenta.

"Oh! Kenta!" I called out to him. Kenta is my friend, though he's very much influenced by Ursus, he's not bad.

"Y/n, let's go now! I don't want mom to find out that I'm visiting the Infected. She's gonna ground me if she finds out." Kenta said, pulling me so we can hurry up.

We are kinda carefree so we used to break promises. Like this one, we promise to not go near any Infected, yet we're visiting one. My mom doesn't want me to get into trouble, while Kenta's mom is just genuinely influenced by the government. It's been a while since I last see them, I hope they're doing well.

Not long after, we arrive at the location. It's an ally that people rarely walk through.

"Hey, guys!" Kenta greets the Infected. I shouldn't call them the "Infected", they're friends.

"Oh, Kenta! Y/n! You guys are in time." A friend responded.

"Yep, we always are," I said.

"So, what do you wanna do?" My friend, Uzaki asked.

"Well, we could eat and play together," I suggested.

"And hide if someone is coming!" Nika added while showing a garbage can near us.

"Woah! It's huge!" Kenta said, sounding surprised.

"Hehe, took me a while to find it," Nike said, flexing to us. Although it seems that only Kenta seems amazed.

"Let's not wait any longer! Let's have fun!" Uzaki said.

We play games together and eat food. It's been a while since I last have this much fun. Everyone is smiling and nobody seems sad. I seriously don't understand why people hate the Infected. They're just like us, but with a disease.

Not long after, we heard steps from afar.

"Quick! Let's hide!" Kenta warned everyone. We quickly jump into the garbage can. Although it took some time since we're short.

We quietly waited and waited. Eventually, we stop hearing footsteps. Kenta, after knowing this, wants to get out, but Nika stops him.

"Don't!" Nika whispered. She shrugged off some bag of trash and look through a hole.

"I knew it!" Nika quietly mumbled.

"What is it?" Uzaki asked quietly.

"They're guards. They must have gone here to patrol."

"Oh no! What are we gonna do? We're doomed if we're found." Kenta said, panicking about the current situation.

"Just leave this kind of matter to luck," I said.

"Seriously?!"

"Yeah."

We waited and waited until eventually, Nika give us a sign which means that it was okay now. We push the garbage can door open and look around.

"Phew!" Kenta sighed, feeling relieved.

"I told ya," I said.

"We're safe!" Uzaki shouted.
