Entry 51

Day 2, Month 21, Year 572

All around me was Lèonese.

Stay in my chair, the people around me spoke Lèonese.

Order breakfast, the attendants used Lèonese.

Ask Tytus how to translate a Peldish word to Cirathan Standard and then to Lèonese, more Lèonese!

He cocked his head after I asked him, a teasing smile on his face. He said some stuff, and I could only make out a few words like 'what'.

"Tytus." I said, my eyes pleading with him, "I need to learn this before we reach the Ashlands."

He sighed, then said another word I didn't understand. This, of course, made me quite mad. Here I was, asking him, my best friend, my 'brother' for help, and he continued to taunt me like this?! I closed my book, stood up, and walked past him to get in the isle. "Forget it."

He raised an eyebrow at my reaction, and I later learned that the mystery word he said was the exact word I was asking about...

But I didn't know that at the time so I took my textbooks and went to look for somewhere I could study in peace. I didn't want anyone bothering me, or asking me questions, or distracting me from my work. I went into the third car, and while the sound of more Lèonese assaulted my eardrums, I found the perfect spot. Near the back, on the window seat, sat Tobiasz. He was leaning against the window and watching the glowing landscape of grasslands roll outside, with Moa sitting on his head.

"Perfect. He hates me and doesn't want to talk."

I plopped down on the seat next to him, and he jumped so much that Moa was kicked up and hit the low ceiling. He shot his head around and almost hit me with his long ponytail, then Moa landed back on his head with a slight thud.

As he wasn't saying anything, just staring, I decided to ignore him. I flipped through my textbook and got to work.

"Ow..." Moa said, rubbing her back, "you giants are so rough... oh! Hey Mal! What brings you here?"

"I am studying."

"Sure, but why here?"

"Tobiasz will not bother my studying as he hates me."

His eyes shifted around rapidly, glancing at me and the train around us, until he finally sunk his head into his shoulders and pressed himself against the wall as much as he could. He's a tall man, stronger than Ludwik and possibly Jovaisa, but he's oddly meek. I don't get it. Even Marian has flare ups of confidence and authority.

From the corner of my eye, I noticed Moa crawl forward on Tobiasz's head and part his bangs. His eyes shot up to her, and she slapped his forehead a few times, then she pointed towards me. There was a slight back and forth, but Tobiasz relented.

"I........... don't hate you."

"You said we should not speak anymore."

Being reminded of this pertinent fact, he went back to looking out the window.

"Agh!" Moa yelled as she fluttered to Tobiasz's ear, gripping it and whispering inside. "What are you doing? Explain to her that she's wrong!"

"But... she isn't wrong..." He started nervously wringing his hands. "I did say that."

Moa gripped the bridge of her nose, "okay, then explain why you said that!"

Tobiasz turned to me. "I only said that we shouldn't speak because I didn't want to talk to you."
