"We haven't spoken in two weeks

"We haven't spoken in two weeks."

Mia's mouth was agape as we sat sucking down margaritas while I tried—and failed miserably—at keeping my composure when it came to speaking about a certain global superstar who may or may not have stolen my heart right before I mangled it up into a blender right alongside his.

"Uh-okay.  Can I ask why?"

"I told him I needed space, and he respected my wishes."

"Mhm.  Right.  And those were your wishes then?  You wanted to be left alone, completely?"

"Yes, Mia.  That is what I said."

"Right.  It just feels like this might not really be what you actually want, Ives.  You've been miserable.  You didn't need space from me or Con, either.  So, you just needed space in the romantic sense of the word?  Not because you were, I don't know, freaked out that you told each other 'I love you' and right after got assaulted by your psycho ex and you were scared it was going to scare him off and decided to go ahead and rip off the band-aid and push him away first before he could do it to you...nothing like that right?"

"No, Mia.  That's...ridiculous."

More like scarily accurate, but I wasn't going to give her that.

She already had far too much power over my emotions and the current status of my relationships that I would've liked.

"So, how did you communicate about his music, since you've basically kicked him out of your life completely?"

"I haven't kicked him out completely.  Hollin still hangs around everywhere, everyday, like he's my bodyguard instead of Kade's.  It would be concerning if it wasn't so reassuring that he wasn't giving up on me for needing time, but I know something's going to give.  He's recording twenty-four seven in the studio, and pretty soon he's going to start traveling for promoting the new album.  And anyways, we finished all the songs on the album before everything with Caleb went down."

She rolled her eyes and sipped daintily on her frozen drink before licking the salted rim and pierced me with yet another glare.

"I wouldn't have to ask you these things if you'd just fess up every once in a while, you know?  For a girl who's been at your side constantly for the past few weeks, you'd think I'd be an Ivy expert.  You know, you never let anyone in, right?  You keep people at a distance, and then push them away when its convenient for you.  But I don't want you doing that to Kade.  From what I've seen, he's made you so happy in the short time you've known each other.  Don't let Caleb take that away from you."

It was exactly what my new therapist that I'd been seeing twice a week since the incident occurred, but I wasn't going to tell Mia that, either.  She would enjoy it far too much, and her ego was already big enough without that boost to it.

"I'll talk to him soon, okay?"

"You'd better."

One more icy glare and then we were lost in laughter over some guy in the corner giving her the 'fuck me' eyes.
