Shadow - Eggman's Ruse

Idea: Y/n joined the Freedom Fighters not too long ago. They were still learning how to fight and what they could do. Until Sonic tells them they can't be a part of the team anymore.

"Y/n, wake up."

The voice of Knuckles woke them up. They stirred before opening their eyes and sitting up. They yawned and turned their head to him. "Knuckles? Whatcha need?" Y/n asked as they rubbed their eyes. "Sonic needs to talk to you." He spoke, "He's outside on the beach." Knuckles finished then left.

Y/n shrugged and stood up, then got dressed. They stretched as they walked outside of their room and to the beach. "Hey Sonic, Knuckles told me you needed to talk to me?"

Sonic wasn't looking at Y/n, he was looking off into the water. His arms were crossed and he spoke in a serious tone. "Yes, there's something you need to know." Y/m raised an eyebrow and tilted their head to the side in confusion. "Yeah? What might that be?" Then Sonic turned to Y/n, he wasn't smiling like he usually is.

"You can't be on the team anymore. You're a liability. You're human, you're weak."

Y/n stared at him, their confused face turning into an angry one. "This is what I have to wake up to? Someone who I thought was my friend being a dick?" They crossed their arms. "Everyone has agreed to this. We've always thought this, we're just now sick of you." Sonic dropped his arms to the side.

"Oh? Oh you're sick of me? Yeah, and I've always been sick of you. Damn blue hero. You let all these other people join the team and stay but you don't even give me the time of day. Shadow is always the one to inform me on things. Because you're lazy ass can't do it yourself!" Y/n yelled at Sonic.

"Like hell I care what you think. Just go ahead and leave." Sonic shot back, Y/n rolled their eyes and walked away.

Y/n went to the woods, they always went there when they were upset. They knew Sonic was off, something wasn't right.

After some time, they found a tree to climb up and stay in. They sat down and closed their eyes. They began to think. They stayed there for a few hours.

Within those hours, the real Sonic was trapped at Eggman's, he was captured along with all his friends. Shadow wasn't caught though. Sonic hoped Shadow would find Y/n and explain everything. But not even Shadow knew they were captured.

"Y/n? What are you doing up there?" They heard a familiar voice. Y/n opened their eyes and shot a glare to Shadow. "Hiding away from you pricks." They spoke coldly, Shadow raised a brow at them and crossed their arms. "Yeah? How's that working out for you?" Y/n rolled their eyes then looked away. "Go away. I don't want to deal with you."

Shadow's curiosity grew, Y/n never acted like this. They weren't cheerful but they weren't mean. "What has gotten into you?"

Y/n snapped their head back at Shadow. "Oh I don't know." They jumped out of the tree, locking eyes with Shadow, they almost lost their words, their act. "Being called weak, a liability, knowing you all are sick of me. Just might make me pissed."

Shadow gave a slight shocked look. He grew confused. He had no idea what was going on. Before he could speak, Y/n spoke up. "Don't give me that look. Don't act like you're innocent." They spoke harshly. Y/n then turned away from him. "Leave me alone." They then left.

Shadow thought it would be best to leave them alone. He didn't know how to comfort people, he'd probably make things worse. Little did he know, if he had gone after them, he'd ruin their plan.

Instead he walked off as well. He walked back to town, only to be immediately captured. Despite fighting back, he was caught. He was then dragged away.

Y/n thought, thought for a while. They had a plan, they figured what was going on. Not fully but they mostly understood. They knew if they wanted things to work out, they'd have to act fast.

After a few hours, Shadow was thrown in a cell alongside Sonic's. By now, Shadow was awake and beyond pissed. He couldn't believe he got caught. How could he? The ultimate lifeform! Get caught!?

"Damnit! Shadow you were our last hope!" Sonic yelled at the other hedgehog. "Everyone else is captured and Y/n clearly believes what the clones said. We were counting on you!"

"Well you were a fool then."

Sonic rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. He watched as Eggman walked in with a few bots behind him. He laughed at the sight of his foes. "Ha! Look at this! Sonic the Hedgehog finally caught! No one to help him! I have everything set up, for me to rule the world! All it takes is the push of this button!" He laughed.

Shadow glared at the human man. "Like hell you can keep me locked up forever. Once I'm out of here, you're dead." Eggman just smirked at Shadow. "That will be hard when you all are dead first!"

"Now then, time for you all to die!" Eggman put his thumb above the button. Once he pushed it, lava would fall from the roofs of everyone's cell. He did not want any of them to live. Eggman smirked and pushed the button.

"No!" They all yelled, all worried.

But, nothing happened.

Eggman pushed the button again, and again, then spammed it. Nothing ever happened. Everyone became confused, Eggman furious.

"You know, I hang out with Rouge and Shadow the most. I learned a few things." Said a voice in the dark. The Freedom Fighters recognized the voice. Shadow couldn't help but smirk a little. "I hope you know Eggman." Y/n continue, coming into view, holding a wire. "I'm not some dumb, blonde, Y-N in some story. I know when my friends are off. I know when they're clones. You think Sonic can just speak to me like that and get away with it? Ha! He'd never even try."

Y/n smirked as they walked past all the cells, opening them one by one. They dropped the wire a while ago. Eggman becoming more nervous and scared.

Once they got to Shadow's cell, they opened it and he immediately stepped out and crossed his arms. "Now I truly apologize, I could let Eggman know that I was on to him, I didn't know if he had cameras on me." They told Shadow.

Sonic and the others went after Eggman, Y/n and Shadow stayed beside each other.

"I probably would have done the same." Shadow responded and Y/n chuckled. "Good, no hard feelings." They smiled at him and he dropped his arms, taking a few steps past them. "All the hard feelings." He then joined the fight. Y/n laughed and joined after him.

~ Bonus ~

Y/n sat in their shared bed with Shadow. He was laying down, trying to sleep. Y/n thoughts were everywhere but sleep though. They wanted to ask Shadow something but at the same time, they didn't want to bother him. Curiosity got the better of them.

"Shadow?"

"Hm?"

"Am..are you guys sick of me? Am I really that weak?"

There was movement in the bed, causing Y/n to look at Shadow. Now he was sitting up, looking back. "No, at least I'm not. You're not weak, not at all. You have grown so much since we met. Don't let those words get to you. Okay?" He reassured Y/n.

They nodded and leaned against him, Shadow wrapped his arms around them and pulled them close. He laid down, making them lay on him. They both closed their eyes and soon fell asleep.
