For years the red string on Y/n's finger did not appear. They grew used to the fact that they didn't have a soulmate. This didn't stop them from growing upset when their friends found their soulmates. Y/n thought there was something wrong with them. Everyone had a soulmate. Even if their soulmate wasn't a romantic partner. Y/n decided to stop thinking about it a few years after they got out of college.

Y/n focused on work, having a soulmate hadn't crossed their mind in years by now.

So imagine their shock when the red string appeared. Y/n stopped what they were doing and stared at their hand in shock. They looked around the room then looked at the time. They were almost off work. They decided to finish work then deal with it after. As soon as work was done, Y/n rushed out. As they made their way home, they pulled out their phone and called F/n.

"Y/n? What's up? You never call. Is something wrong?" F/n asked in a almost worried tone. Y/n would always text, they hated calls. This was important to them though. "Yes! No- I don't know!" Y/n said, confusion in their voice. "What happened?" F/n asked. "The string- it appeared! The soulmate one, I have a soulmate!" They reached home and unlocked their door before going in.

"What?? It just suddenly appeared? I'm coming over. You home?" F/n stood up and went outside their house. "Just got home. See you soon." Y/n then hung up. They waited for F/n to get there. Once they did both of them sat on the couch. "When exactly did it appear?" F/n lent back on the couch, arms crossed. Y/n thought for a second, "About twenty minutes before work ended. Why did it suddenly appear??" Y/n couldn't help but overthink this.

"Woah woah." F/n lent forward, putting their hands on Y/n's shoulders. "Calm down. You know how this world is. Maybe they're from another world and they just got here?" F/n calmed Y/n down. They gave a nod. "Maybe- Hopefully." Y/n thought for a moment, they had no idea what to do with this information. "What do I do? Do I try and find them? Do I wait for them to try and find me?" Y/n looked at their friend.

F/n thought for a moment. "That's up to you. I waited for my partner to find me. A friend of mine went out and tried to find their partner. It just depends on what you want to do." They responded and Y/n looked off. "I think I want to try and find them." F/n smiled, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's follow the string!" They jumped up and Y/n looked up at them and nodded before standing as well.

Soon they both left, Y/n kept looking at their hand to make sure they were on the right path. They began to overthink again. F/n noticed this and decided to distract them for a while. F/n grabbed Y/n's hand and went into a store.

That's how that went for a month or two. Y/n would want to find their soulmate but began to overthink and F/n would have to distract them. This caused a lot of pauses on finding the soulmate. Right now, F/n was distracting Y/n, trying to help them find an outfit.

"What about this?" F/n looked over and they shook their head. "No, that color doesn't match the other thing you got." Y/n groaned and put it back. They felt a gust of wind go past them. Quickly followed by another. Both Y/n and F/n backed up from the fight that was happening. "We should get out of here." F/n said as they began to leave. That's when Y/n realized something. "F/n wait."

Y/n looked at their hand and followed the string, it led to the fight. F/n saw this and gasped. "Oh my gosh, is Sonic your soulmate??" Y/n shook their head and looked at the fight. "No, it took so long to appear because he was just built and gained a conscience." F/n looked at Y/n then the fight and realized. "Metal Sonic!?" F/n said in surprise.
