Giyuu let out quiet growls and snarls as children below threw rocks up a tree at him. He was pressed up against the tree's trunk, between branches, hidden as best he could. Not good enough though, since around five children had found him.

The children laughed as they tossed rock after rock into the tree, hitting Giyuu every through throws forcing a yelp from him. Hot, salty tears began pooling in his eyes and blurring his vision. Dripping onto his precious sister's haori leaving small, dark patches of liquid.

He could hear the distant sound of some strange animals approaching, then heard the yelling of a boy around his age. The yelling boy ran at the children with a stick with a large stick, managing to knock one over the head.

The boy had peachy pink hair and wore a white haori over a geometric yellow and green haori. He picked up one of the rocks and tossed it at the children as they ran off, then turned his gaze up into the thick leaves of the tree.

"Hello? Are you alright up there?" He called out quietly, the strange animals Giyuu had heard before gathering around his pink haired saviour. "Those horrid little children are gone now, you can come down. It's safe." He smiled brightly.

Giyuu gazed into the boys eyes from above, they were a rather beautiful colour. A pale lilac shade that seemed to reflect the sunlight like mirrors.

The boy sighed, pointed to the field that lay just beyond the edge of the forest and the strange creatures lazily wandered over.

He stretched, then sat down with his back to Giyuu's tree. He closed his eyes, his spiky hair swaying gently in the cool, soft breeze.

It was nearing late afternoon when the boy awoke. He stood up and stretched, and shouted out to the creatures who slowly gathered closer.

Giyuu deemed it safe enough to avoid the burning sunlight and seized his chance. In a swift movement, he was able to pull the boy up into the tree's branches with him to get a better look.

The boy squealed, scooting back fearfully, staring at Giyuu with a mix of emotions.

"What the…"

Giyuu tilted his head at the boy then smiled, his little fangs flashing in the remaining sunlight.

"Who are you.. What are you?" The boy edged closer, reaching out a hand.

Giyuu froze, letting out a snarl and backing up. "Woah! Sorry… I won't hurt you, see?" The boy raised his hands up with a smile.

"I'm not sure what you are, but you're… amazing."

Giyuu let out a little rumble, similar to a cat's purr and smiled again. The boy chuckled, admiring the strange features he had gained after his transformation.

"Can you speak?" The boy asked, "My name is Sabito!" He held out his hand expectantly. Giyuu just stared clueless.

The boy, Sabito, gently took his hand and placed it in his own. He held it loosely, then gave it a firm shake.

"What's your name?"

Giyuu opened his mouth to speak, but all that came out was a soft growl. He scowled then tried again, receiving the same results. He let out a quiet snarl in frustration.

"Well, if you don't have a name then perhaps I can give you one!"

The boy leaned in, examining Giyuu.

"You have foxy ears, and a big fluffy tail too… Fox?"

Giyuu shook his head.

"No? Okay, hmm… You have black hair, what about Raven?"

Another head shake.

"Wow, you're picky. Let me think…"

Sabito gazed into Giyuu's deep blue eyes for a few moments.

"What about Blue? Maybe Sky, or Midnight?"

Yet again, a shake of the head.

Sabito sighed, crossing his arms. Then an idea struck him. "I know! Maybe.. Maybe I can teach you how to speak!" He grinned, taking a hold of the demon's clawed hands.

"I'll help you say my name first, okay?" Giyuu nodded slowly. This could work for him.

"It's Sabito, remember? Sa, bi, to… Now you try!"

"Sss… Saaahhhh… Sah!"

"Good job!"

"Sahhh… Bee! Sah, bee!"

Sabito grinned, nodding his head in approval.

"Sah bee… Bee Toe! Sah bee, toe!"

"Yeah, that's it!" Both boys were smiling ecstatically, with Sabito holding both Giyuu's hands in a gentle embrace.

"Now try your name." Giyuu nodded, letting out another little rumble.

"G-" He paused momentarily, sucking in a breath through clenched teeth then spoke slowly "Gi.."

"Gi? Is that your name?" Giyuu shook his head with a gentle growl of annoyance, then tried again.

"Gi… Yuu."

"Giyuu?"

His face lit up with a smile and he nodded, producing little "clicking" noises at the back of his throat.

"Well, I'll see you tom Giyuu! I have to take the cows back to the barn- How do I get down from here?"

Giyuu glanced over at the setting sun debating if it was safe for him. He stood up and grabbed Sabito under the arms and hopped down almost silently.

"Woah- Thanks! Try practicing some words, I'll come see you tomorrow!" Sabito shouted as he ran off towards were his strange creatures, that Giyuu now knew were cows, were laying in the grass.

The little demon smiled, climbing back into the tree. As much as he missed his big sister, he'd finally made his first friend. Something she'd be proud of.
