Diana was silent the entire trip back. Seething.

Dread pooled in the pit of Captain Marvel's stomach. He so wasn't looking forward to the promised conversation.

The oblivious kitten in his arms, hadn't stopped chattering about Hal.

"Where's Billy?" Diana's curt voice snapped Cap out of his thoughts.
"I'll go get him." This gave Cap a wicked idea.

He handed Dexter over to Diana and flew off.

A minute later, Shazam appeared cradling Billy in his arms. Billy looked as innocent as possible. His counterpart had that goofy, lovesick grin on his face.

"Billy," Diana's voice was gentle. A stark contrast from her harsh attitude towards Captain Marvel. She wrapped her arms around him and sat him on her lap.
"Did you not know that Dexter's a Blue Lantern?"

"What's a Blue Lantern?" Billy feigned ignorance. "I thought they were all Green." He leaned into Diana's warmth. She reminded him so much of his mom.

With utmost care, she moved Billy off her lap. Then, like a lioness, she stalked up to Shazam.

"You knew. But you did not bother to tell your own son who is taking care of him?" Diana prodded Shazam's barrel chest with her finger.

"What? Blue Lantern?" Shazam looked confused. Billy didn't have the time to tell his counterpart everything. But the teen had been bugging Billy for Diana time, which Billy's more than happy to arrange.

"I know you're not as dumb as you look." Diana's voice jumped an octave higher. "You were the one who told us he's a Blue Lantern."

"I did?" Shazam pointed at himself, his mouth wide open.

"Why didn't you tell me the truth?" Diana sagged. Billy felt horrible for keeping the truth from her. For hurting her.

"Erm, I thought we were going on a date, for ice cream?" Shazam gave her a toothy grin. Trying to look charming.

Slap!
Wrong answer.

Shazam's bright red cheek glared at Billy. He cringed.
It must sting.

"Give him a break," Dexter stretched out his paws. "He's protecting me. Besides, you do owe him that ice cream sundae."

"He talks?" Shazam pointed at Dexter.

Both boy and cat face palmed while Diana's hand flew at Shazam's other cheek.

The big man ducked.
"Diana. Please," rumbled Shazam's deep baritone.

Dexter leaped out of Diana's arms and onto Shazam's head. "How about an ice cream party to thank Cap for taking care of us?"

Diana sighed and picked up the phone.

Fifteen minutes later, room service delivered four enormous sundaes to the suite.
"Ice cream!" Dexter leaped onto the waiter's shoulders. From there, he jumped onto the tray, burying his face in the biggest sundae.
