Don't Press the Red Button

To my younger self,

Don't press the red button.

Thinking you can be smarter, older

But there are more ways than one.

Be free, be young

Cherish the colour times

Feel the comfort of ever trees

Soaked in sugar sweets

A sticky candy that dries your teeth

A certain luxury

That nothing you do

Really does much

A certain affordability,

That you are not a solid balloon but

A rushing waterfall

A river of molten glass

Unshaped, unmoored

The freedom of a world of

Fantastical possibilities

Knowing you can be whatever, whoever

Without weight or rope

Lovely to meet you,

But don't press the red button

Pandora's box opened and spilled

A question left unanswered forgotten

But run through meadows green and lush

And don't want for what you might

Never be

Never feel

Alive like no other

Young like none

It goes by.

It goes by like a bubble in the ocean

Like a wish or a secret on a starry night

Bigger than planets, and solar systems

Past the Milky Way, a thing never

To laugh again

To find joy in the simple, small things

To see the wonder of a single, half-wilted flower, freeing

Or the trick of light

A world not black or white

But mutli-hued, multi-lensed

Extraordinarily balanced and

Extraordinarily accidental

And extraordinarily

Made

For

You.

A means to an end.

My darling,

I tell you this from deep inside,

Seeking a place where I once

Could scream or cry

or laugh

Just for the sake of it

From a place where I found happiness

And hope,

In the darkest corners

So I tell you not to wish for more,

But wish for just how it is.

Just how it is.

So go live and cry,

Don't act like you're better.

You're not better.

You're meant for great things,

But right there are more important things,

You got beautiful wings,

Golden and ancient,

Down the path you go,

Never say yes, never say no.

Go back to the playground,

Stay in your dreams,

Yellow bars, red beams

A blue sky high above,

You can never have enough but

Listen

To my pleas,

I said don't press the red button, darling

I know what you want, I was you too

Please don't forget that,

I'll never forget you.

Keep your thoughts together,

Wild and free. Keep counting the stars,

Knowing who you can be,

But I want to be so much

When I used to be so little

So small and now I have this pull

Back to the ground when I thought

I'd be back in the clouds

By now.

Things have been so quiet and dull,

When I remember a world of love and life

Colours mulled, feelings unrife

Missing something, missing a piece of me

Left far behind

And I find

I care too much and I feel too little

Like my bones are too brittle

I'm still young,

I'm still careless,

I still got a lotta fight left in me,

But something's different,

Left irrelevant,

Don't you see?

Don't press the red button,

Smash it with your fist!

You got so much power

Forget that.

But save it for tomorrow

When all you have left

Is a crumbled tower,

Deep inside

Deep down into my memories

I see you, small and wild and sweet

Where did it go?

Where did it all go?
