I wonder what it's like
To wake up not in pain
I wonder what it's like
To know not the burning flames
What is it like
To embrace that which others yearn for?
To break things that others would die for? It's nothing to say you understand
But do you truly?
Do you know what it's like
To wake up in agony for years and years on end
To be a slave to medications and illnesses
That can never ever be taken away?
And when all they tell you to do is pray
Pray the pain awayI want to scream
I want to yell,
"Does talking to a wall work?"
"Does adding more fire to a blaze put out the inferno?"It's time to face the facts
They just don't care about us
Those of us with chronic illnesses
Are left behind by healthy people
Told we're crazy
"It's all in your head!"
"Don't say you wish you were dead!"Made us believe their lies and slander
Till we can no longer remember
That this isn't our fault
Chronic illnesses are not your fault
You are not the cause of your pain
Your fear is not unwarrantedThey say things like
"Try yoga!"
"Try kale!"
"Why don't you just try to feel better?"Yeah, like that helps
Maybe next time you want to give
Unsolicited medical advice
Just don't
Because those of us with real illnesses
Fucking hate it
