I was in my office when I started thinking about my future. Will I ever choose to love again? Will I ever have kids? What if I don't get married by the age of 25..? Suddenly my door opened snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Ava we need to talk" Fernando said, judging by his face expressions, it's serious.
"what is it?" I said
"Mom wants to do an arrange marriage for you. But I told her to wait and see if you can find someone but she refused and said that you've already had enough time" brother said as my eyes widen trying to process what he just said
"Are you serious? Why now? I have about 7 years to get married, why now?" I said trying to control my anger in me
"I don't know why she decided now, but you know we can't disobey her like that. And that's not even the worst part" he said making me nervous for what the next words are going to be. "Your marring the leader of the mafia called, The Matili, so far I know they are from Italy." Brother said
My eyes widen when I heard who the mafia was. I couldn't believe it. Why them? How did my mother even get in contact with them?
"I'm so sorry sis, mother said that the wedding is going to be in 3 months and that she wanted to tell you in another way but she thought me telling you was better than her telling you." My brother said while I'm just sitting in my chair speechless.
"I want to talk to mother, she wouldn't just make me marry someone while I still have time. It doesn't make sense, she's isn't this crazy." I said finally realizing whats happening
"Ok I'll take you right now if you want" he offered "thanks, I'm done with my work anyway." I said as I stand up walking out the door with Fernando following behind.
We got into my brothers car and drove to our house, as we were pulling into the drive way, we saw other cars parked outside. Me and my brother gave each other a look and waited a few seconds before stepping out the car and walked towards the door
I opened the door and saw my mother talking to some men on the dining table. As we walked in I heard my mother say "Ah there she is, hola mija we've been waiting for you"
"Why?" The only words leaving as I had an idea in my head on who these men are but blocked it
"This Andrea, the leader of the Matili" my mother said as I looked at the man beside her already looking at me with a very slight smirk on his face
He had hazel eyes, was wearing a black suit that looked good on him, he had light chocolate hair that suited him, his lips were a little big and he seemed like he works out a lot.
I was just standing there like an idiot thinking, how is this real? Am I really going to get married to this man in 3 months?
"Come on mija show some manners and saluda le y sienta se" my mother said as I looked at Fernando out of shock and giving him a what-do-I-do look, he just signaled me to pay my attention back to Andrea
I turned my head back and I walked towards Andrea, "Hello my names is Ava, nice to meet you." I said as I put my hands out to shake his hand with my voice sounding a little shaking
"Hello Ava, I'm Andrea, it's a pleasure to meet you" he said shaking my hand smiling.
"Come sit down mija, and you too Chuy" mother said pointing our seats to sit on
"So to catch everyone up just in case you don't know already know" mother said while looking at me.
"Ava this is your future husband, you guys are going to get married in 2 months. Ava your going to move in with Andrea which is a couple of states away" mother said as I'm glaring at her with a lot of anger building up in me.
"Mother, I have a couple of questions." I said interrupting her
"Mija don't interrupt me like that but ask anyways" mother said while glaring at me
"Mother I have 7 years to get married, why now? Why him? How come I don't get to decide my love of my life" I said trying to control the anger that I have inside.
"Well mija I'm fully aware that you've never had a boyfriend and that you always reject guys so why not now. And the reason why I chose is because you don't have any experience in relationships and I'm aware that I should help you, as a mother should do, to continue your life happy." my mother said answering 2 of my questions.
"Mother that doesn't make sense 'why not now' you've never cared about my life you've always just sent us to school and made us do our daily routine to never go out with friends and stay either inside the house or in the backyard." I said trying to see any sign that there is something else that I'm not filled in
"Mija don't over think it, I'm doing what's best for you and you better do as I say or else. Ah miré, aquí viene la comida" mother said trying to change the subject
"Y what about tu Andrea, got any questions?" Mother asked Andrea
"Well I wanted to ask Ava if she wants to continue living here but in another house with me so that she doesn't have to move so far away to her loved one's, and if she's willing to accept this vacation I have planned out 3 weeks before our wedding so that we can spend some time together and get to know each other" Andrea said making me in shock that he even cares about my feelings and for us.
I saw how mother widen her eyes smiling at Andrea, "that would be lovely of you, what do you say Ava" mother said while both Andrea and mother looked at me
"Well I would like to continue living in this city but I'll have to think about the vacation you have planned out, I'm gonna need more details, like when are the dates exactly, how long is the vacation and where is it gonna be held" I said looking at Andrea making him smile a little
"Well Ava, you can decide all of it, if u want, unless if u want it to be a surprise." Andrea said making me look at him blankly
"Maybe surprise her, she likes surprises, just knowing her she's gonna want to know if it's like a beach, so that she can pack bikinis and stuff, or like if your going to a city that has a lot of activities or something she'll know what to pack" I heard Fernando saying in the back earning a glare from me
"Well perfect, that should work right Ava?" I heard mother say
"Yes" not looking into anybody's eyes wondering what I'm agreeing to.
"Great let's get to eating" mother said
We continued talking and planned the dates and everything for the vacation and Andrea kept looking at me which gave me the chills. But soon after we finished and mother invited him back again for dinner next week on Wednesday. He agreed then left. I ran upstairs to my room closing my door, wanting to be alone. I slowly drifted to sleep without realizing it.
