Chapter four: Snakes Are For Slytherin's

DRACO'S POV:

The filthy Hufflepuff had the audacity to storm out on me and create a scene in front of everyone. She left me to finish the project on my own, ME! Does she have no respect for anyone? I can't believe I actually have to finish this bloody project on my own! 'Weren't Hufflepuff's supposed to be all friendly and accommodating anyway? Why is she so stuck up?' Snape tapping his wand on my table had got my attention away from my thoughts.

"Where's [l/n]?" Professor asked me slowly which made my eyebrows furrow.

"How am I supposed to know! The lazy Hufflepuff just ran out on me to do this myself!" I jested my hands to our unfinished potions project, making it obvious I wanted compensation from my misfortune.

"She just... Left?" I nodded my head at the professor's question. "And you didn't... Provoke her?"

Scoffing, I said, "No." but he saw right through my act, grabbing me by the collar out of frustration.

"Don't lie to me boy." Snape said through gritted teeth, his anger nearly paralyzing me.

"I-I told her she has no right to act like your daughter because you want nothing to do with her." I quickly confessed, fearing what the consequences may be if I didn't. Now that I think of it, that was a bit out of line for me to say. After all, I didn't have the most caring father either.

"Foolish boy!" The man said, letting go of my shirt collar and smacking me over the head making me let out a "Owch!" I brought my hand up to my now stinging head as Professor Snape continued, "There will be a ten point deduction to the Slytherin house."

"Are you so serious? What about a deduction from Hufflepuff? She's the one who made a big deal out of it!" A harsh look from him made me immediately stop talking.

"Don't test me, boy."

"Yes, sir." I sighed, getting back to work on the project.

Once the class had ended I noticed that [y/n] didn't come back to retrieve her belongings. I was going to simply leave them, except movement in her bag had caught my attention. I stood there, eyeing it for a moment until I saw her pet snake come slithering out. A smirk plastered itself onto my face as the creature took a liking to me, snaking his way up my body.

"Hello there." I spoke to it, stroking his scales with my fingers. "She's not a very good mother, just leaving you here like this." The snake hissed at my negative remark, wrapping around my arm. "Sorry." I immediately apologized, wanting the creature to like me as much as I was beginning to like it. "It's alright though, I'll take care of you for the time being." My free hand reached for her stuff, taking it back with me to my dorm along with the snake. 'It seems I found myself a new pet.'

—----------------------------------------------------------------

The next day I stood outside the great hall, leaning against the wall with her snake wrapped around my body. I waited there for [y/n] patiently, ready to rub in the fact that her pet loves me more than he loves her. It took a bit longer for her to show up than I had originally expected, but once I saw her running around like a headless chicken asking everyone she crossed paths with where her precious snake was, I grinned widely.

"Looking for something, [l/n]?" My voice immediately got her attention. I chuckled seeing her angry expression as I pet the white scales of the creature. The girl didn't hesitate to stomp over towards myself.

"It was you! You took Drayce!" [y/n] was quick to accuse me of stealing her snake, but we both know that's not what happened.

"Technically, you left him. I was only making sure he was well taken care of."

"Give him back!" [y/n] yelled, her fingers forming into fists. I couldn't help but smirk at the situation, gazing upon the snake twisted around my arm.

"Actually, I've taken quite a liking to him. I think I'll just keep him instead." I was expecting I'd get a kick out of her reaction, except pleasure was the last emotion I felt when I saw her face twist into an expression I knew all too well. Pain, fear, and anger swirling around in her eyes and tears freely streamed down her cheeks. It was the same expression I held while staring in the mirror at myself, knowing that I had no choice but be the pureblood Slytherin Price I never truly wanted to be.

"Drayce Is all I have left." her tone was meek and pathetic, almost making me feel bad. "You may be lucky enough to have loving parents and lots of friends. But I don't. He's the only family I've got anymore. Why can't you be a decent human being for one day in your life and give him back?" 'Well shit, she actually managed to make me feel bad.' Singing deeply I held out my arm which had her pet wrapped around it out.

"There, you can take him. Just, stop crying please. It's hard to watch." [y/n] held her breath in response to my words, trying to keep herself from crying like I had asked. She took the creature away from me and held him close to her chest. I began to walk away but stopped once I was shoulder to shoulder with the Hufflepuff.

"Can I at least say goodbye to him?" I inquired, knowing that I've grown quite attached to the little guy. The [h/c] haired girl nodded her head as she faced me so I could get a better look at him. "See ya, Drayce. If you ever get bored of [y/n] in potions or defense against the dark arts, you know where to find me." My cocky words made a soft yet also annoyed slime reach onto [y/n]'s face. 'There. Problem solved.' I thought, my legs carrying me into the great hall for breakfast.

"Malfoy," The girl called out for me, making me look at her over my shoulder. "Do you also have my bag by any chance?"

"It's in my dorm." I spoke, turning around and nodding my head in the direction of the dungeon as I walked asking her to follow. Our walk was silent, although not completely uncomfortable. Once we reached the dungeon's she waited outside the common room as I retrieved her things. Making my way back to her I noticed something familiar in her bag and I couldn't help but pull the item out to examine it, curious as to what it was. To my surprise, it was the 'Potter Stinks' badge I had given her yesterday.

Stepping out into the dungeon I held the badge up, making eye contact with her.

"Thought this wasn't your style, Huffle. Why didn't you just throw it away?" I took note of how bloodshot and puffy her eyes were as I spoke, feeling kind of bad over the fact I made her cry.

"Because," She began, giving me a genuine look, "You said you made it. I wasn't going to throw out something you put effort into making. Even if the badge is a little rude." Just then, something inside me changed, my heart fluttering for the first time ever. I didn't like the foreign sensation at all.

"Tsk, whatever [l/n]!" I snapped at her out of seemingly nowhere, shoving her belongings into her hand and shoulder checking her as I moved past her. "And I expect you to allow me to pet Drayce every now and then!" I shouted as I picked up my speed, refusing to look back at her. 'Filthy half-blood probably cast some sort of curse on me. Yeah, that's probably it.' I thought, thinking about how she managed to make my heart flutter for the first time.
