Chapter six: Stars

[Y/N]'S POV:

I just want to make it perfectly clear; I was just trying to eat my food in peace. Seated at the Hufflepuff table, Cedric next to me rambling on about Cho actually saying yes to going to the ball with him. That's what a peaceful lunch should be, however there was another factor making tranquility impossible. Malfoy's icy eyes burning through my very essence from across the hall, putting me on edge.

He was in his usual spot at the Slytherin table, his friends seated around him all smirking like idiots. Malfoy's hair was done a little differently today than usual, I couldn't help but notice. However, I only took very quick glances at him, my eyes almost immediately leaving him once I realized he still hasn't stopped staring. 'Do I look weird or something?' My [e/c] orbs drifted down to the yellow bodycon dress I had on over a tight white turtleneck under my cloak, hands moving to smooth the fabric out a bit. I hoped that was the problem, taking a quick peek at Malfoy once I had finished. 'Nope, he's still staring.' I bit the inside of my cheek as I started to feel uneasy.

"Cedric," his attention was fully on myself in an instant. "I look decent, right?" I had to get a second opinion at this point. The brunette's brown eyes scanned my body, looking for a detail which seemed off.

"Yeah, you look great as always. Why do you ask?"

"Well, it's just that m-" I paused in the middle of a word as the Weasley twins got my attention, pointing dramatically in the direction of something... Or someone? I speedily twisted my head in the direction they both brought to my attention, my throat going dry. 'Why is Malfoy walking up to me? He doesn't go out of his way to be around me, especially not in front of other people. What's happening?'

Cedric tried to get my attention, shaking my shoulder slightly, but I couldn't take my eyes off Malfoy. The way he carried himself with confidence was actually quite attractive, as much as I'd hate to admit. My skin tingled uncontrollably once he made it to where I sat. He stood directly behind me, placing one hand on my left shoulder, his other hand rested on the table, allowing him to lean over my right shoulder. His warm breath hitting my neck made the hairs on my body stand up.

"Meet me in the astronomy tower after dinner." Malfoy hushed in my ear, his tone almost sounding silvery. I was in too much of a shock to even begin to construct a response, and so he left the hall entirely with confidence after his quick demand. I darted my attention back to the Weasleys, who were giving me thumbs up.

"What was that about?" Cedric asked, seeming quite curious over the strange occurrence. I tilted my head trying to figure out the answer to that very question myself.

"No idea." I spoke, my tone totally baffled.

—--------------------------------------------------------------

The sound of my shoes tapping against the stairs as I made my way up the astronomy tower echoed in my ears. My wand was at the ready when I finally made it to the top, assuming Malfoy asked me here to pull some horrible prank on me.

Malfoy was already at the top waiting for me, tilting his head in my direction once I made my presence known by clearing my throat.

"Took you long enough." The platinum blond sneered. He then noticed the wand gripped tightly in my hand. "And you can put that away. I didn't ask you here for a duel. Besides, it's obvious to everyone I'd win that challenge." My eyes narrowed as I put my wand away and hesitantly neared him.

"So, why did you tell me to meet you all the way up here?" I crossed my arms suspiciously while eyeing him. It took everything in me to not back away from Malfoy as he stepped closer to me and grabbed my hand, directing me toward the ledge.

"I simply thought you'd want to see the view." Despite his words being rather thoughtful, his tone was cocky. I hummed, looking down at the school grounds below. It was far too dark to see much, but I suppose it was rather nice. Malfoy chuckled, using his finger to little my chin towards the sky. "Not down there, look up."

I gasped when I saw stars rearranged to spell out "Go to the ball with me?" I knew that they weren't actually stars, instead some sort of magic the blonde had used. 'I wonder where he found such a unique spell.'

"Wow, that's really... thoughtful, Malfoy." I turned my head to look at his arrogant expression as I continued, "I didn't think you were capable of having good ideas like this. I'm sure Pansy will like it. Although, I thought she already knew you two were going together?"

"Pansy? No. The only reason I had even considered her was because of my parents." The boy explained to me, looking off in the distance before his gray eyes found my [e/c] ones once again.

"So, what's the point of this then?" I was confused to say the least. I stared back up at the magical words, attempting to think of some sort of explanation. Sighing, Malfoy crossed his arms.

"You're absolutely oblivious, even for a Hufflepuff." He paused when I shot him an annoyed look, but eventually finished his thought, "I'm asking you to the ball, [l/n]."

The quietness which followed felt uncomfortably loud. But I couldn't even try to make sense of this, I was absolutely bewildered. It was like, some indescribable emotion inside of me switched gears suddenly. Sweat began to stream from each of his pores as the silence consumed us.

"Well say something!" He eventually snapped at me out of nervousness, which successfully brought me back to reality.

"Oh! I-uh, right, sorry, it's just such a contrast from our constant bickering." Coming up with a way to rationalize my agonizing silence was actually quite easy. The blonde boy then gestured his hand to encourage me to continue, still awaiting an answer from me. My mind went blank, not processing a single thought.

"U-umm..." 'Just blurt something out already [y/n]! Anything!' I scolded myself internally, forcing myself to yell out, "Yes." Both of our expressions became shocked due to my response. 'That's not what I thought I was going to blurt out.' Malfoy took in a relieved breath as he brought his slightly shaky hand up to his forehead, whipping the sweat away.

"Brilliant, I'll be meeting you at the bottom of the staircase at the ball then." He said, making his way to the exit. I nodded my head at him, standing perfectly still otherwise.

"Okay." I confirmed, watching him descend down the tower until he was out of sight. I bit the inside of my cheek. 'What just happened?'
