Chapter four: Single Pringle

[Y/N]'S POV:

Today was the day of the first task of the Triwizard Tournament. Groups of students went to watch, myself among them. Fred and George were also there, encouraging people to place bets. Although the two of them were being absolutely obnoxious I decided to sit next to them. I mean, they were my only other friends other than Cedric so I also didn't really have much of a choice but to sit next to them.

Cedric was the first of the contestants to go, making my heart beat fast due to the uncertainty of his performance. His task was to get past a dragon and retrieve an egg. 'That's definitely easier said than done.' I thought to myself, biting my nails due to worry.

"It's alright [y/n]. Cedric got a lot of bets placed on him winning. I'm sure he'll do great." Fred announced, his hand rubbing up and down my back as to comfort me. I simply nodded my head at his words, still feeling uneasy.

Cedric was doing really well actually, until he was just about to grab the egg, not paying attention to the dragon who was about to beat him down with his tail.

"Cedric! It's tail!" I screamed as loud as I possibly could, praying he would move out of the way in time. Thankfully he had heard me and managed to get the egg without being crushed by the dragon. "Yes!" I screamed again, ecstatic over the fact he did it with minimal injuries.

"Merlin, won't you get off Diggory's dick already [l/n]?" A random Ravenclaw whom I've never even seen before said to me. His frame is shorter than my own and sitting in the stand in front of me, allowing me to look down at him.

"Excuse me?" To say I was offended by his statement was a bit of an understatement.

"Oh don't play dumb, Hufflepuff." The boy began. 'Why does everyone use Hufflepuff as an insult? They're literally here cheering for a Hufflepuff in this tournament.' "We all know that you're only friends with Diggory because you want to snog him." He hissed at me as I crossed my arms.

"No, I don't. I have zero romantic feelings for Cedric." I asserted, the two twins next to me wanting in on the drama.

"It's true." Fred piped in, nodding his head at his own statement.

"We would have known if she did." George added, his pointer finger moving between himself and his brother as he spoke. The Ravenclaw gave the three of us an unconvinced look.

"You're probably only backing her up because she's songging the two of you as well." my teeth bit down on my tongue to keep myself from lashing out.

"I wish." Both of them sighed in unison, making my eyebrows lower. However, I still didn't let myself speak, doing my best to stay calm. I already got detention from Snape, I don't need anymore trouble.

"American whore has all the older boys wrapped around her little fingers, doesn't she?" The Ravenclaw added bitterly, making me take in a long deep breath. 'Just stay calm.' I thought, and next thing I know Malfoy and his two goons came out of what seemed to be nowhere. The blonde's voice had a stern tone to it.

"Huffle couldn't snog someone if she wanted to. Now get out of my seat, loser." Malfoy's gray eyes were piercing as he stared the short Ravenclaw down.

"But, you were just sitting over there-"

"And now I want to sit here. It's really not that hard to understand." Malfoy spoke as his two goons threw the Ravenclaw out of their way, stealing the kids seat. "Filth has no respect for greatness." He scoffed, now seated in front of me. 'Well, as rude as it was of him to say I couldn't pull any bitches, I'm actually quite grateful he got the guy away from me.'

With the sound of the cannon I refocused myself onto the next contestant attempting to secure the golden egg.

The day after the champions all completed their first task, Professor McGonagall met with each house one by one, teaching us how to dance for the upcoming Yule Ball. She had instructed that everyone finds a partner to practice dancing with, Cedric and I pairing up. He spun me around as we waltzed and held up a conversation.

"Do you know who you'd like to go to the ball with?" Cedric's soft voice asked me. I let my [e/c] orbs drift around the other pairs of students dancing around the room as I thought.

"No," I started, shaking my head. "The only people I ever really converse with are you, the Weasley twins, and on occasion Malfoy when he demands to pet my snake, Dracye." My eyebrows furrowed as I realized just how odd Malfoy really was. "And I think it's obvious Malfoy and I won't be going together considering he despises me. And I don't want to go with either of the twins because they'll expect me to makeout with them. And I can't go with you because we're friends, people already think we're dating, and it's just too weird." Cedric spun me around as he chuckled at my words.

"Fair enough." He agreed, continuing to waltz with me.

"What about you?" I questioned. "Anyone you plan on asking?" I grinned as I saw a bashful smile reach his fair face.

"Actually, do you know Cho?"

"The Ravenclaw girl?" The brunette nodded shyly. "Awe! That's cute! But by the way, Fred and George told me that Harry also has an interest in her too, so I'd get a move on asking her if I were you."

"Noted." Cedric beamed, "Thanks, [y/n], for being a great friend. And if you happen to need a date at the last minute, I could probably find you someone, so just let me know."

"Got it." Although I sounded genuine, there was absolutely no way I was going to ask Cedric to help me find a date. I'd rather go alone than look that desperate.
